Working for our organisation
As minimum criteria all staff employed by the Trust should have a basic competency for numeracy and literacy equivalent to NVQ level 2. If you are shortlisted for this post, you will be required to undertake an assessment for these skills prior to interview. Candidates who pass the assessment will then be invited to interview.
Probationary Period
This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff).
Assessment/Interview info
At NELFT we set very high standards to ensure we provide quality services. We require prospective employees to carry out an online literacy and numeracy test, equivalent to NVQ Level 2. Starting with NELFT
NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction.
High Cost Area Supplement - London
This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (minimum payment of £3,898 and a maximum payment of £4,967).
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
1. To be responsible for coordinating shift and prioritising own and others workload in the
day to day allocation of work.
2. To be able to provide clinical leadership to junior staff on duty, screen referrals, offer
timely response to crisis assessments and allocate work accordingly.
3. To have organisational knowledge relating to Trust protocols and procedures and adhere
to them, particularly administration of medicine, HTT protocol and lone working policy.
4. To be responsible for providing accurate records of information required by the Trust for
audit purposes.
5. To ensure effective risk management at team level by accident/incident reporting,
assessing and controlling risk and ensuring residual risks are added to the Trust register.
6. To be able to liaise with other stake holders and work in MDT setting.
7. Build effective relationships with service users and carers.
8. To initiate and maintain communication with service users, carers, relatives, GPs, other
professionals and agencies as appropriate.
9. To work in partnership with referring agency to develop joint care plans.
10. To be responsible for communicating complex clinical information to a variety of recipients
(e.g. families and other professionals), both verbally and in writing.
11. To maintain effective consumer confidentiality, ensuring adherence to NELFT and own
Service policies, the Data Protection legislation and the Freedom of Information Act.

- Basic awareness of IT and IT skills
- Well-developed interpersonal skills especially when handling conflict and change.
- Ability to facilitate positive multi-disciplinary working relationships across all services areas
- Ability to resolve difficult which affects working relationships and to offer support to staff, service users and carers on an ongoing daily basis
- Ability to explore emotionally demanding aspects of the role with appropriate staff in both managerial and clinical supervision as well as in team meetings and informal work related support systems
- Ability to assume the role of senior waking night staff, which will be part of the contracted hours and will provide a 24 hour, 365 days a year service, to service users, who are experiencing a sever acute mental health crisis
- Ability to take positive risk and provide care to service Users, in the least restrictive environment
- Ability to undertake HTT triage assessment to determine appropriateness for the service and priority for service response including risk to self or others and gate keeping in-patient admissions
