Locum Consultant General Haematology and Sickle Cell. Full Time 10 PA 12 months
GSTT has a strong Haematology service under the umbrella of being one of the largest health care providers in London.
The post holder will be responsible for supporting the specialist trainees managing consultative advice for the busy inpatient service at St Thomas’ site.
You must be fully registered with the GMC and hold a License to Practice and be on the Specialist Register, or within six months of attaining your CCT or equivalent at interview stage.
The post holder will have regular contact with vulnerable adults and/or children (0-18 years) and therefore this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Criminal Records Bureau to check for any previous criminal convictions.

The post-holder will be accountable to Dr Rachel Kesse-Adu, clinical lead for Haematology.
This post will be covering the sickle inpatient service as well as the general Haematology consultative service. The post holder will be responsible for supporting the specialist trainees managing consultative advice for the busy inpatient service at St Thomas’ site. This work averages 15-30 referrals discussed per week with a list of 3-10 patients requiring more Haematology input or investigation. Some of this advice can be given by telephone but a daily ward round of both sickle cell and general Haematology referrals takes place when attending (1/5 week Rota). This post will also provide laboratory support reviewing blood films and abnormal blood results at St Thomas’ site and providing appropriate advice. They will participate in the general Haematology clinics and will vet referrals to this clinic and in addition will share the provision of the ‘Advice and Guidance’ service for GPs (15-20 queries per week) and electronic referral systems (EVS, ERS) in line with recent mandatory CQUIN targets.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Your job plan is anticipated to contain 10 Programmed Activities per week on average to be carried out on Guy’s & St Thomas’ sites and includes on-call commitments. This is an outline programme and you will be expected to discuss and agree a detailed job plan including your personal and professional objectives with your Clinical Director within 3 months of your start date.

- Full and Specialist registration (and with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC), or be eligible for registration within six months of interview.
- Applicants that are UK trained, must ALSO be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview.
