The Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust provides a full range of acute clinical services for a catchment area of up over 1 million people. Our patients are referred to us by around 100 local GP surgeries and other acute hospitals and primary care Trusts around the country. We are involved in the teaching and training of a wide range of health professionals, in partnership with the University of East Anglia and other local education providers.

It is an exciting time to join our Physiotherapy service which will play an instrumental role in the Trust commitment to become a designated major trauma centre over the next 5 years alongside investment and transformation of its elective care provision. We are seeking an experienced senior Physiotherapist with highly specialist knowledge and skills to join our musculoskeletal outpatient team.

You will work with and learn from staff who are experts in their field and will have the opportunity to develop both your clinical and leadership skills working with junior staff, physiotherapy support workers and students. We are proud to have strong links with the University of East Anglia, to develop our research capabilities and associate tutor opportunities for senior staff.
Advert
In this role you will have opportunities to manage Consultant referrals for a wide variety of patient groups requiring acute + specialist management. Caseload will include complex acquired conditions eg.spinal; trauma; orthopaedic pre- and post- op care; and rheumatology.
You will work in a variety of settings including virtual and face to face 1:1 appointments, groups and exercise classes, MDT clinics and hydrotherapy. You will play a key role in the development of our services and the knowledge and skills of our clinicians, drawing on the support of other clinical experts in the service and throughout the wider Trust.
You will have an active role in supervision and annual appraisal to ensure your own personal development. You will be supported to pursue your professional interests, assist in the development of your colleagues and help shape our services.
Working in an acute hospital you will be required to maintain competence to work across in- and out- patient settings with support and training. You will support our weekend service across trauma & orthopaedics to fulfil 7 day working commitment.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- Experienced physiotherapist with highly specialist skills responsible for the physiotherapy management of patients presenting to the relevant service/team within the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
- To be the clinical lead physiotherapist responsible for a defined area of work as specified in Appendix 1 (where relevant).
- To be an expert clinical resource for the physiotherapy management of patients presenting to the relevant specialty, both within the Trust and regionally, as required.
- To represent the physiotherapy service as a clinical expert in initiatives both within and outside the Trust as requested by the Physiotherapy Services Manager or Physiotherapy Service Lead.
- To be responsible for an individual caseload including prioritisation, assessment and management of patients with a range of acute and chronic conditions. Relying on expert clinical judgement and using highly analytical skills, to determine clinical diagnosis and treatment. To maintain records as a legally autonomous practitioner.
- To provide a leadership role clinically, educationally, professionally and managerially.
- To have an active role in the planning, development, coordination, delivery and evaluation of the physiotherapy service provided to patients within and out-reaching from the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
- To deputise for the Physiotherapy Operational Lead/Integrated Therapy Lead/Service Lead as required.

- To collect relevant patient information from a variety of sources e.g.radiology imaging systems, other investigations to assist with clinical prioritisation and patient management. This may also include ward handovers, observation charts, medical and nursing records etc.
- To undertake the comprehensive specialist assessment of patients using investigative and highly analytical skills.
- To make a clinical diagnosis based on presenting signs and symptoms.
- To formulate an individual management and/or treatment programme using advanced clinical reasoning and a wide range of treatment skills and options relevant to clinical specialty.

Travelling to work
Staff parking is available onsite; however, this is limited during core working hours. We have more capacity in the evening and at weekends and can usually provide spaces during those hours.
We look to allocate these spaces fairly. Our Travel Office have a set of criteria that staff must meet in order to qualify. If you qualify for a space, you may be placed on a waiting list if we are at full capacity.
The NNUH is served by a number of public buses, and we offer generously discounted monthly passes with First Bus & Konect.
The Costessey Park and Ride runs regularly each day from 06:30 (from P&R) to 20:45 (from NNUH) and this service is free for NHS staff. There is a regular Thickthorn P&R service as well which is free. Applications to the Travel Office are required for this service. We also have a discounted service from the airport P&R if you purchase a bundle. Please see Konect website for further details.
The NNUH host multiple bicycle racks and a salary sacrifice scheme. We also benefit from a Beryl station onsite.
