Our mission
We are determined to create a more equal Islington, where everyone who lives here has an equal chance to thrive. To do this, everyone who works at Islington Council lives by a set of values which guide us in everything that we do: collaborative, ambitious, resourceful, and empowering. They spell out ‘CARE’, which is what we think public service is all about.
Trosolwg o'r swydd
Are you passionate about improving outcomes for the population and reducing inequalities? Do you have the vision, skills and experience to help transform public services and realise a shift to prevention?
Islington Public Health is a unique public health service that forms a key part of the Council, and leads the way in improving the health and wellbeing of the borough's population and reducing health inequalities.
We are seeking to recruit a Public Health Senior Strategist who will take a leading role in delivering our departmental objectives. In addition to strategic leadership of certain portfolio areas, the post-holder will lead on programme management of a £1.5m Start for Life workforce pilot grant from the Department of Health and Social Care.
This programme provides an opportunity to pilot innovative approaches to the delivery of health visiting services within the borough, working very closely with Whittington Health. As well as leading this pilot programme within the Council, you will be working predominantly across the maternity and children’s health portfolio areas, which may include areas such as health protection and immunisations, healthy weight and physical activity.
Advert
You should be able to demonstrate: a strong track record in strategic oversight of, and expertise in the development and implementation of public health programmes; have excellent communication skills and a strong understanding of the public health responsibilities of the local authority.
You will lead on the assessment of local health needs and the interpretation and implementation of public health policies, national guidance and the evidence base, to increase health outcomes and reduce inequalities in Islington. You will lead on the planning, development, implementation and monitoring of public health interventions and programmes, services and strategic plans.
The post-holder will work predominantly across two teams within public health, one leading on maternity, children and young people’s health, the other on health protection, healthy weight and physical activity, but may provide support across the broad spectrum of public health, as departmental needs require.
The post holder will support and deputise for Consultants in Public Health, where appropriate. As a Public Health Senior Strategist, you will work with Public Health team members as well as with partners across both councils, NCL ICB, service providers, the voluntary and community sector and beyond. This post offers an exciting opportunity for individuals with excellent public health skills.

This post-holder will have a senior leadership role within the Public Health Department, alongside Public Health Consultant and other departmental leads for children and young people, and for health protection, healthy weight and physical activity .
In addition to strategic leadership of certain areas, the post-holder will lead on the programme management of a £1.5m Start for Life workforce pilot grant from the Department of Health and Social Care.
