Our community services include health visiting, school nursing and support for families of children with long-term conditions.
Our adult community services teams deliver care at the heart of the local communities we serve, working in partnership with GPs, local authorities and other healthcare and voluntary sector organisations. Working with our partners in Lambeth and Southwark, we are focusing on new ways of working to improve care for local patients.

Job overview
Royal Brompton Hospital is a specialist heart and lung centre. We are part of Harefield Hospital; Guys and St Thomas specialist hospitals which are known throughout the world for our expertise, standard of care and research success. From our sites – in Chelsea, London and Harefield, Middlesex – we strive to develop our staff both personally and professionally to ensure our patients get the high-quality care they deserve.
We are looking for a courteous and motivated person to join our friendly team on Ward Foulis and Victoria, Monday - Friday 09:00 - 17:00. The successful candidate will work closely with the nursing staff to facilitate the smooth running of the ward.
The post holder will:
- Be responsible for office duties including tracing and filing patient’s notes and liaise with medical records.
- Deal with phone calls from patients, their relatives and other departments within the hospital.
- Undertake a variety of administrative duties relating to patients, nursing staff and the running of the ward.
- Have excellent computer skills and the ability to work unsupervised. They will need to use a number of different IT systems. Training will be given.
- Be an initial point of contact for patients and visitors on arrival to the ward.
- Demonstrate sensitivity/confidentiality and have good customer relations.
- Promote a positive image of the Trust.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The postholder will work as an integral part of the Lung Division.
They will take responsibility for office duties on the Foulis and Victoria Ward, which is part of the Lung Division. They will be expected to assist in the safe and effective day to day running of the unit, thus enabling nursing staff to deliver direct care to patients.
The postholder will work closely with the Deputy Service Manager, Matron and other ward clerks. They will have close communication with
the respiratory doctors, secretaries, medical records and other support service departments.
Main tasks & responsibilities:
- Patient/customer care (both direct and indirect)
Carry out tasks including dealing with telephone enquiries, greeting patients on arrival to ward and escorting them to their bed space.
Obtaining medical records prior to patient’s admission, and filing appropriate paperwork in patient’s notes.
Use of hospital computer system to track patient’s notes, obtain test results and other necessary uses to assist in role
Other daily contact with patient’s, customers and staff to ensure smooth running of unit.
Record and report all incidents/complaint involving staff, patients and visitors in accordance with Trust Policies and assist in any investigations as required.
