Job overview
We are advertising for a MRI Superintendent radiographer to join our team in Radiology at University College London Hospitals. This is an exciting opportunity for a highly experienced individual with developed expertise in MR Imaging to jointly lead the MRI department at UCLH. MRI services at UCLH have expanded in recent years with the openings of Royal National ENT & ED Hospitals and Grafton Way Building.
The role encompasses both clinical and managerial responsibilities. The post-holder will lead and develop MRI services, policies and staff development and work closely with the current MRI Superintendent as well as the existing team of superintendents, consultants and advanced practitioners.
The post requires leading on training programs, providing clinical expertise for new MRI scanner procurements, and management experience as you will be line managing a significant group of staff.

The Radiology Department is very active in both teaching and research. The post-holder would be expected to participate in education and training of other healthcare professionals and provide highly specialised care to patients.
Based in the heart of London’s West End, the Imaging Department at University College Hospital is part of one of the UKs largest Foundation Trusts. Imaging forms an integral part of the patient pathway. The UCH Imaging Department has a comprehensive range of state-of-the-art equipment’s, including 8 MRI, 6 CT, digital Interventional Suites and 10 digital X-ray rooms. Grafton Way is our new eleven story building and home to one of only two NHS Proton Beam Therapy (PBT) centres in the UK.

Knowledge & Qualifications
Essential criteria
- BSc or Diploma in appropriate area of practice
- HPC/IPEM State Registration
- Portfolio of evidence of Continuing Professional Development including post graduate specialist training equivalent to Master’s level
- Evidence that knowledge of general techniques is up to date.
- Evidence of the ability to critically analyse images
Desirable criteria
- PGCert/diploma in MRI
Experience
Essential criteria
- Demonstrable evidence of a wide range of general radiographic experience and techniques
- Evidence of extensive experience in specialised MRI Radiology
- Experience of supervising and assessing junior staff and students.
