Job overview
If you are a Neonatal Nurse and are looking for an exciting career working with surgical and medical Neonates as an ANNP, then come and join our wonderful teams at the Royal London Hospital Neonatal Unit. We host Neonatal Transport Service and there will be an opportunity to rotate to this Service as part of this role.
The future vision for these posts are for rotation of the ANNP’s to work at the Royal London Hospital NICU and Neonatal Transport Team providing excellent care for the neonate and family.
There is also an exciting opportunity for the suitable person to continue to help develop the SCBU and Transitional Care at RLH to be nurse led.
There is time set aside for developing within and alongside the medical and neonatal nursing team with input from the Consultant team.
The Neonatal Unit at The Royal London (London Borough of Tower Hamlets), is a level 3 Tertiary neonates with both medical and surgical cots, and ophthalmology services (nurse led in conjunction with the Opthalmology Team).
The unit comprises of 13 ITU cots, 14 HDU cots and 14 SCBU cots, with approx 650 admissions per year. There is current expansion occurring where we aim to be at 45 beds by the end of the year. These are ITU & HDU cots.
There is time set aside for teaching and your own professional development. You will be encouraged to explore an area of particular interest to you, as well as participate in clinical governance, audit, guidelines, and research.

The role aim and person specification has been developed to align with the BAPM framework 2021, this framework aims to be a resource not only for ANNPs but also employers and education providers alike, to inform service development, commissioners and healthcare providers in the planning and quality assurance of neonatal services.
- To provide high quality care to the neonate and family
- Contribute to the development of a high-quality neonatal service, on the Neonatal Unit. This will also include rotation onto the Neonatal Transfer Service.
- Practice evidence based clinical care of the neonate
- Utilise advanced skills for the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of the sick neonate.
- Promote the role of the ANNP as part of the multidisciplinary team
- Support the nursing team in providing excellent care to the sick neonate by supporting the education team, and contributing periodically to the nursing rota.
- Participate in unit MDT teaching programme and Transport teaching involving nursing, medical and ambulance staff.
- Ultimately the Rota will involve 6 month rotations between the Transport team and the Neonatal unit at the Royal London Hospital. The ANNP will be working on the Tier 2 Medical Rota.
- The post holder will be expected to work between emergency and elective teams possibly stepping into medical and nursing roles on the same day.

Essential criteria
- Registered nurse RSCN/RN/ RM with current NMC registration
- Masters degree in ANNP
- Relevant experience post qualification in ANNP and neonatal nursing
- ENB 405 or Equivalent QIS
- Teaching Diploma or equivalent e.g. ENB 998 or Assessment in Practice,PGCE.

Specific requirements
Essential criteria
- The post holder will be required to work shifts, on call, flexible hours.
- However, whilst on the NICU the expectation would be approximately 30 hrs on medical rota and 7.5 hrs per week shared between management day, nurse shifts, nurse education, audit and personal development.
- The post holder must be able to deal with stress of the environment, people manage, patient group manage, work closely with the junior, senior Dr’s, consultants all nursing bands and transport service, be skilled as listed above.
