Job overview
The Sexual Health Service in Hywel Dda runs clinics out of all 3 counties [Carmarthenshire, Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion] in community settings. The post-holder would be expected to travel to any of these clinics when required by the service. The Sexual Health Service provides abortion care for the residents of Hywel Dda, and the post- holder would need to be actively involved with this part of the service.
One of the roles of the post-holder is to take on the development of the vasectomy service within a community setting. At present vasectomies are provided within secondary care but the proposal is to move it across into the community setting over the next 12-18 months
The provision of ultrasound scanning in early pregnancy, gynaecology and deep implant removals is an important part of the Sexual health Service. The post-holder would be expected to either be trained to perform these ultrasound scans or willing to be trained.
Advert
• Lead in developing and implementing vasectomy provision within the SRH service
• To act as the Vasectomy Lead for the SRH service
• Identify a Primary registered trainer with the FSRH for initial training for vasectomy SSM
• Coordinate risk management of the vasectomy service
• Work closely and productively with Urology colleagues where necessary Teaching/Training
• To lead, along with the nursing learning and development lead, on all aspects of internal staff training, and external training
• To work in close relationship with the Abortion Service Lead to ensure smooth and safe running of abortion care in Hywel Dda UHB
• Deputise for Abortion Lead when absent/on leave
• To perform ultrasound assessment of early pregnancy I.e. gestational age dating scans
• Teach and supervise juniors and nursing colleagues learning to provide abortion care
• Arrange abortion procedures for women with complex medical needs
• Prescribe appropriate medication for use on the day of the procedure

- Full GMC registration with a licence to practice
- Primary medical qualification registrable in the UK
- DFSRH
- MFSRH or working towards
- Letter of Competence in Intrauterine Techniques
- Letter of competence in Subdermal implants
- GMC (HEIW) Recognised Trainer or meets eligibility criteria
Desirable criteria
- Interest in working towards an application to the GMC for a CESR in Community Sexual Reproductive Health
