Rationale for post:
This is a new post, created from funding received from commissioners, to support the community respiratory service.
This is a new, fixed-term for 12 months, part-time post - 2 sessions (8 hours) a week with 1 hour protected time for supervision and personal development. This post might be extended following the initial 12 months period.
GPs with extended roles are very well established in Mid and South Essex (MSE), which offers a package of benefits alongside the opportunity to take up a role outside primary care.
Portfolio roles and GP with extended roles (GPwER) positions support mid and later career GPs to work within primary care whilst enjoying the variety that a portfolio interest offers, supporting a balanced career and wellbeing.
The GP role in the Community Integrated Respiratory Team aims to:
• Support GPs to have increased opportunities within MSE to further their career through attractive portfolio placements
• Recruit and retain GPs in MSE
• Increase collaborative cross-system working and understanding through developing
GPs with a wider understanding of other parts of the system and allowing GPs to share their knowledge and expertise whilst working in the Community Respiratory Team setting.
• Support system partners with recruitment of appropriately qualified GPs for respiratory medicine training opportunities
• Offer a variety of opportunities to inspire practicing GPs to increase job satisfaction, diversify their careers, and remain in the workforce longer term.
This is the first time our Integrated Respiratory team will have a dedicated GP with a specialist interest in respiratory medicine, who can contribute to the development and shaping of the service.
This is a portfolio development role designed for either a GP already experienced in respiratory medicine to become part of the service and grow in the role, or to support a GP to develop an area of expertise in respiratory medicine, whilst remaining part of the GP workforce.
All applicants should hold a substantive (partner or salaried) GP role of at least 2 sessions a week within the MSE footprint and would be required to continue within their substantive role for the 12 months duration of the post.
