Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Qualified Dental Nurse to join our team in Oxfordshire Community Dental Services. This is an ideal career opportunity for anyone looking to develop their existing skills and to provide a first-class service. You will assist our clinicians in a variety of settings including:
- Special care dentistry
- Inhalation and IV Sedation
- Orthodontics
- School surveys such as BASCD
- General Anaesthesia
- Domiciliary visits

We support our nursing staff to work in all the above aspects of dentistry including the delivery of inhalation sedation training, CPD support and post certificate funding.
This placement will be based in East Oxford Dental Clinic with the expectation to travel between 9 dental clinics within our service when required. Our clinical sessions are Monday to Friday and usual working hours are between 8.30am – 4.30pm. Flexibility in your approach to work is therefore essential and you must be able to travel easily around the county. Travelling outside of your base will be covered by travel expenses.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The successful candidate should have a positive attitude towards working in a team environment and provide our patients with the best possible care. The trust ensures regular supervision with line managers to ensure both staff and the service are supported.
There is also an opportunity to join our out of hours dental service which attracts enhanced rates of pay.
Registration with the General Dental Council is a requirement of this post.
Own car or access to alternative travel for business use is essential.
- All new starters have a 6 month probationary period. This, together with the induction process, aims to create a positive supportive working environment allowing new employees to learn key elements of their role over a reasonable timescale
- Candidates not currently employed by the Trust who attend an interview for non-qualified Band 1-5 posts are required to undertake numeracy and literacy assessments.
- Appointment to this post is subject to the trust receiving satisfactory references covering 3 years of employment or study. Please ask your referees to respond promptly to reference requests.

Essential criteria
- GCSE’s or equivalent in literacy and numeracy
- National Certificate in Dental Nursing/Level 3 Diploma in Dental Nursing
Desirable criteria
- Post certificate e.g. sedation, radiography, oral health
Experience
Essential criteria
- Dental chair side assistance in patient care of all ages and backgrounds
- Demonstrable knowledge of cross infection control standards
- Ability to use own initiative, work under pressure to prioritise tasks and anticipate needs during treatment
Desirable criteria
- Previous experience of working in a community or hospital setting
- Familiar with dental software packages e.g. R4
- Able to supervise trainees and unqualified staff
Personal Qualities
Essential criteria
- Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of patients and staff
- Willing to participate and contribute to the team
Desirable criteria
- Good organisational skills
