An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Maternity Services at Oxford University Hospital’s NHS Foundation Trust for an exceptional, committed, and motivated midwife for the post of Delivery Suite Co-Ordinator. The successful candidate will work closely with the Matron, Band 7 Delivery Suite Manager and medical obstetric colleagues to ensure excellent care is provided to the women and their families. The individual must have a strong commitment to midwifery practice, safety and have excellent organisational and leadership skills. The successful candidate will provide clinical leadership ensuring that the team philosophy promotes and reflects optimal standards of care for pregnant women and their families.

Role Summary:
The band 7 midwife has continuing responsibility while on duty to manage delivery suite or equivalent sphere of midwifery practice, including assessment of care needs, the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care and the setting of standards.
The Midwife will facilitate innovative and evidence based midwifery practice through professional leadership and supporting the clinical team
He/she will have managerial responsibility for a group of staff working within their practice area.
The Midwife will act as a credible and professional role model and encourage and empower other staff to develop both personally and professionally to achieve their maximum potential
The Midwife will liaise with all members of the multidisciplinary team and facilitate a collaborative approach to women, their baby's and their family's care to promote the close integration of community and hospital based care.
The Midwife will report directly to and develop close working relationships with the the Director of Midwifery/Clinical Midwifery Manager on operational and general management issues and clinical issues relevant to their practice area/team.
The Midwife will liaise with members of the OBU Midwifery education team to develop an effective learning environment for students and new members of staff.
The Midwife will assist the Director of Midwifery/Clinical Midwifery Manager in achieving the strategic objectives for the Maternity service.

Main Responsibilities:
Working as a midwife the post holder will:
Professional/Clinical Practice
- Fulfil the role of a midwife as defined by the World Health Organisation and the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Midwifery Rules and Code of Practice and reflect the Trust's guidelines, policies and standards of practice.
- Manage a complex clinical caseload/ area and be accountable for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care, responding to the individual needs of women and their babies.
- Maintain and extend clinical skills in all aspects of midwifery practice that are relevant to current developments in the Maternity services.
- Participate in and support the development of evidence based clinical practice, ensuring agreed policies, guidelines and standards are implemented and monitored.
- Motivate staff to submit ideas to improve care and in collaboration with colleagues implement change, monitoring and discussing outcomes with relevant personnel.
- Act as a role model in clinical practice and be proactive to implement local, regional and national midwifery policies.
- Liaise with OUH colleagues and other professional and non-professional agencies relevant to the needs of women to ensure health and social care needs are addressed as appropriate.
- Liaise with the Patient Safety Team, Practice Development Midwives and Professional Midwifery Advocates on aspects of unsafe practice that do not meet agreed professional standards, and take appropriate action as necessary.
- Participate in the maternity service bleep holder rota to be available for additional clinical advice.
- Demonstrates and respects the Trust guidelines and policies that promote equality and diversity.
Quality:
- Ensure that staff within the clinical area have access to and are aware of current national and local policies that impact upon and effect the delivery of midwifery care.
- Contribute to the clinical audit programmes and ensure that clinical risk management is integral for the practice area/relevant clinical team.
- Work with the Clinical Midwifery Matron to ensure good standards of housekeeping exist for the practice area/clinical unit to minimise infection risks.
- Assist with the monitoring of the quality of care in the practice area and participate in audit programmes as required.
Managerial Practice:
- Utilise available staff resources effectively and contribute new and practical ideas to improve efficiency.
- Ensure the clinical area/clinical unit is safe and adequately staffed with the appropriate skill mix at all times.
- Participate in the recruitment and selection of staff.
- Co-ordinate and participate in the staff appraisal scheme to ensure all staff have an agreed personal develop plan.
- Investigate defects in equipment/supplies reporting outcomes in accordance with OUH trust policies.
- Assist the Clinical Midwifery Matron to investigate complaints from service users, visitors and staff and report the findings in accordance with the Directorate's Comments and Complaints policy.
- Collect and record statistical data for audits, research projects as required by local, regional or national bodies.
- Competently record information on the maternity data system and retrieve relevant information from the Information Technology systems.
- To have successfully completed the training programme and frequently take part in the maternity service bleep holder rota.
- To participate in flexible rostering, including an on-call roster, to provide safe ‘woman centred’ maternity service
- Actively monitor the budget for the clinical area/clinical unit and administer its Charitable Trust funds as appropriate.
- Participate in local, regional and national development activity on behalf of the Children's and Womens Directorate.
- Assist the Director of Midwifery/Clinical Midwifery Manager in achieving the goals and objectives of the Oxfordshire maternity services and OUH trust.
Professional development, Education and research:
- Act as mentor to students and colleagues undertaking post-registration courses, assisting educational staff with supervision and assessment of learners and support other mentors.
- Actively participate in the preceptorship of newly qualified midwives and new midwifery staff in liaison with the OBU education staff/Practice development Midwives.
- Work with the OBU education staff to develop an effective learning environment.
- Work with the Practice development midwives to develop and monitor the Maternity care assistant role.
- Participate in clinical teaching, lead skills/drills workshops and be aware of other appropriate courses/seminars and other resources that learners could be directed.
