The Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust provides a full range of acute clinical services for a catchment area of up over 1 million people. We provide specialist services in radiotherapy, neonatalogy, paediatrics, orthopaedics, plastic surgery, ophthalmology, rheumatology, medicine and surgery. Every year our 7,000 staff treat people from Norfolk, neighbouring counties and further afield. Our patients are referred to us by around 100 local GP surgeries and other acute hospitals and primary care Trusts around the country. We are involved in the teaching and training of a wide range of health professionals, in partnership with the University of East Anglia and other local education providers.

Our Older People’s Medicine team on Earsham Ward are looking for Registered Nurses to join their dedicated team.

Earsham Ward is an ortho-medical ward consisting of 38 beds, providing care for some of our frailest patients over 60 years old, and those that have fractured Neck of Femur NOF (Hip). Our dedicated team cares for patients who have fallen and have NOF fractures, as well as presenting with multiple other co-morbidities. The ward works with the NOF specialist nurses to aim for rapid recovery of our patients. The ward is divided into four teams: Green, Yellow, Red and Blue. You will work alongside Nursing staff, Medical staff, Health Care Assistants and the wider multidisciplinary teams to assist the smooth running of the ward. We treat patients with lots of complex health needs and manage a high degree of end-of-life care – working with our supportive team and patient group will provide you with invaluable nursing experience and job satisfaction.
Our ward provides a unique opportunity for Registered Nurses to gain experience from both medical and surgical aspects of care. We’re passionate about continuous improvement and providing excellent patient care and would welcome applications from candidates who share the same goals and values.

Older Peoples Medicine is one of the largest specialities in the hospital and offers many varied pathways for career progression. We offer a range of services across our four dedicated Older People’s Medicine wards including a short-stay ward, an ortho-medical ward, a ward specialising in dementia care and the UK’s first Older Peoples Emergency Department. We have a dedicated dementia support team, integrated specialist volunteers and a programme of stimulating activities and events helping to provide the best experience for our patients in hospital. Our award winning teams provide compassionate, person-centred care for older people in hospital, working closely alongside multidisciplinary colleagues. We care for around 200 inpatients at any time across our services.
Our teams love the diagnostic challenge of working with older patients with complex needs and the benefit of sharing skills with clinical colleagues from other specialties. When joining Team OPM, you’ll have the opportunity to develop a broad understanding of the needs of older people, build experience of the wider healthcare system and take advantage of a variety of professional development opportunities.

1.Ensure practice is in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and work within limits of competence.
2. To have successfully completed the Trust’s preceptorship programme.
3. Maintain a high standard of nursing care applying evidence-based practice.
4. Carry out assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of nursing care without supervision.
5. Carry out the daily personal care of patients.
6. Maintain accurate records of all care given.
7. Update patient administration systems e.g. PAS to ensure real time data
collection and confidentiality.
8. To effectively use information technology for the benefit of patient care in
accordance with the Trust’s Cyber Code of Conduct.
9. To maintain confidentiality of information (written, verbal, electronic), whilst
being aware of the Freedom for Information Act.
10. To promptly and effectively communicate relevant changes in patient status to

Travelling to work
Staff parking is available onsite; however, this is limited during core working hours. We have more capacity in the evening and at weekends and can usually provide spaces during those hours.
We look to allocate these spaces fairly. Our Travel Office have a set of criteria that staff must meet in order to qualify. If you qualify for a space, you may be placed on a waiting list if we are at full capacity.
The NNUH is served by a number of public buses, and we offer generously discounted monthly passes with First Bus & Konect.
The Costessey Park and Ride runs regularly each day from 06:30 (from P&R) to 20:45 (from NNUH) and this service is free for NHS staff. There is a regular Thickthorn P&R service as well which is free. Applications to the Travel Office are required for this service. We also have a discounted service from the airport P&R if you purchase a bundle. Please see Konect website for further details.
The NNUH host multiple bicycle racks and a salary sacrifice scheme. We also benefit from a Beryl station onsite.
