Senior Theatre Practitioner in the Digestive Disease and the Gynaecology Oncology Theatre. 3 T's Opportunity - Robotic Surgery is on the way.
Do you wish to work in a growing department where you will have the opportunity to enhance your perioperative skills? If so, the Operating Theatre Department at the Royal Sussex County Hospital may be the place for your career development. We undertake minor, intermediate and complex surgery, including vascular, digestive diseases, maxilla-facial, gynaecology, emergency, trauma and orthopaedic procedures. As both a Centre of Excellence for Vascular Surgery, and the Major Trauma Centre for the South East Coast, we treat and care for some of the most complex and acutely unwell patients in the region. This provides fantastic opportunities to develop and enhance skills, and to be a proud member of a highly skilled, patient focused team delivering excellent care throughout all our many surgical specialities.
We are currently looking for enthusiastic Band 6 Theatre Practitioners (Nurses/ Operating Department Practitioners) to join our friendly, forward thinking team. In particular, we are looking for dual trained staff with both scrub experience and anaesthetic qualifications. Previous theatre experience at band 5 or 6 level is necessary for this post.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- In conjunction with other clinical staff, participates in the setting, monitoring & evaluation of standards of care for patients.
- Using the specialist peri-operative care plan the post holder will assess, plan, implement & evaluate patient care within sphere of responsibility.
- To provide specialist, technical & clinical advice to patients & relevant colleagues in the peri-operative setting.
- Deputise for the Team Leader when required & act as an autonomous practitioner.
- Ensure that accurate records & information systems are maintained.
- Able to demonstrate relevant IT & keyboard skills to enable electronic data collection (Galaxy Database).
- Ensure the safe control, custody & administration of all drugs within the peri-operative area in accordance with Trust Policies & national legislation.
- Ensure due regard is given to the customs, values & spiritual beliefs of patients/clients & colleagues & equal opportunities are practices.
- Ability to give & receive complex & sensitive information.
- Assist the team leader to ensure that clinical/nursing practices accurately reflect the departmental philosophy
