Job overview
The posts are open to both nursing and Allied Health Professionals who have successfully completed their MSc.
The post holder will be a key member of the multi-disciplinary team to provide clinical quality care to all patients at Clifton Hospital. The role will also include development of the team and expanding the clinical role. You will be expected to provide expertise and decision-making skills to inform clinical reasoning when dealing with individual patient presentations.
You will be a team player and work collaboratively with staff from all wards consisting of care of older person, complex pathways, rehabilitation and orthopaedic non-weightbearing patients.
You will be responsible for all day to day management of patients liaising with medical colleagues any concerns when completing board rounds.
You will be expected to assess, plan and evaluate a range of interventions which may include prescribing medications requesting investigations and providing lifestyle changes.
Clifton consists of 4 wards and is part of the acute site at Blackpool. We are part of the Integrated Medicine and Patient Flow Division and very much part of a great team.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- To be professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of own work, including the management of patients in your care and to ensure a high standard of clinical care for the patients under your management, and those of other staff, by providing expert care for a complex caseload of patients.
- To accept clinical responsibility for a diverse and often complex caseload of patients and to organise this efficiently and effectively regarding clinical priorities and use of time. To ensure a high standard of clinical care for the patients under your management.
- To receive referrals from and make referrals to healthcare professionals review the patient and act, accordingly, thereby reducing length of time patients wait for intervention and discharge process.
According to current legislation to undertake independent prescribing and make appropriate use of the administration of medication using your Non-Medical Prescribing and/or Patient Group Directions.
- Develop and maintain communication with people about complex issues and/or in difficult situations.
- Be proactive in developing own professional practice, demonstrating evidence of increasing autonomy, clinical judgement and decision-making skills and contribute to the development of others.
- Promote, monitor, and maintain best practice in health, safety, and security.
- To act as the day to day expert operational lead within Clifton wards, working autonomously and in collaboration with multi-disciplinary professionals both internal and external to the trust.
- To provide clinical leadership and work alongside the supporting Medical Consultants to develop evidence-based practice and maintain clinical excellence, which will promote the delivery of quality care development.
- To act as an expert practitioner demonstrating and applying advanced skills and knowledge in Medicine and provide expert advice, including producing guidelines, and inputting into future developments, service planning and provision.
