The Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust provides a full range of acute clinical services for a catchment area of up over 1 million people. We are involved in the teaching and training of a wide range of health professionals, in partnership with the University of East Anglia and other local education providers.

**Fixed term contract/secondment opportunity for 12 months**
The Phlebotomy service at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital (NNUH) is managed within laboratory Medicine, and is responsible for delivering routine phlebotomy to in-patient and out-patient services within the Trust.
Laboratory medicine is managed under the Eastern Pathology Alliance (EPA) which is formed from three Pathology Laboratories based at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital (NNUH), the James Paget University Hospital and the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Kings Lynn.
Phlebotomy has an extremely busy reception, where patients are at the heart of what we do. Communication skills and an excellent telephone manner are essential to this role.
We currently have approx. 3,600 booked appointments coming through the clinics each month predominantly all booked via the booking line.
Our enthusiastic team are made up of approx. 35 phlebotomists and 4 receptionists, all passionate and striving to make the time patients spend in hospital, or just coming in for appointments as pleasant as possible.
The post holder will have excellent communication skills and will come into regular contact with patients.

- The post holder will be expected to contribute to the provision of the highest standards of patient care.
- The post holder will provide high quality administration and reception support to both our reception areas in the East and West block.
- Greeting patients on arrival, making of appointments on the telephone.
- Keeping records and statistics to aid the running of the department.
- Recording patient details on our system paying great attention to detail, aiding both patients’ staff with any queries and assisting with direction when required.
- Accompanying patients to other departments if required.
- Maintaining a clean and welcoming environment for patients and visitors at all times.

- To provide a support service to the departments whole team.
- To carry out receptionist duties, including prioritising and arranging appointments. Identifying test requests and investigations.
- To deal with patients and external and internal staff enquiries in person or via the telephone, in a courteous and confidential manner and provide assistance as required.
- To ensure patients safety and well-being in the waiting area prior to them being called for their appointment and alerting appropriate staff to any cause for concern.
- To ensure appointment lists are maintained and prepared in readiness for clinical work
- To cancel and re-book appointments as necessary, assessing each individual requirement to establish priority and need for the overbooking of clinics
- To maintain the various filing systems and record books within the Department and provide a filing system for all departmental staff to use.
- To assist in the movement of patients to and from wards and departments as necessary.
- To arrange hospital transport for patients attending the department in accordance with Trust policy.
- To demonstrate own activities to all new Receptionists and ensure that they are fully aware of all Trust and department policies and procedures

Travelling to work
Staff parking is available onsite; however, this is limited during core working hours. We have more capacity in the evening and at weekends and can usually provide spaces during those hours.
We look to allocate these spaces fairly. Our Travel Office have a set of criteria that staff must meet in order to qualify. If you qualify for a space, you may be placed on a waiting list if we are at full capacity.
The NNUH is served by a number of public buses, and we offer generously discounted monthly passes with First Bus & Konect.
The Costessey Park and Ride runs regularly each day from 06:30 (from P&R) to 20:45 (from NNUH) and this service is free for NHS staff. There is a regular Thickthorn P&R service as well which is free. Applications to the Travel Office are required for this service. We also have a discounted service from the airport P&R if you purchase a bundle. Please see Konect website for further details.
The NNUH host multiple bicycle racks and a salary sacrifice scheme. We also benefit from a Beryl station onsite.

DBS
