An Exciting opportunity has become available in the Breast Imaging department for a Deputy Breast Imaging Manager to join our team.
Our friendly and progressive Norwich Breast Unit is part of the QSI Accredited Imaging Department at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital and has a lot to offer an enthusiastic Mammographer. We aim to always be at the forefront of developments.
The department provides a full symptomatic and breast screening service, with symptomatic and assessments based in a state-of-the-art hospital, on the outskirts of the city. We work at a pleasant pace so we can make the women’s experience as caring as possible.
Candidates will be required to produce a presentation and present it at interview. The title of this presentation will be provided at confirmation of interview.
Part time: 30 hours per week

You will support the Breast Imaging Manager in further developing the high standard of breast services in Norfolk, incorporating both the National Breast Screening Programme and symptomatic breast services, and to work to establish the Norwich Breast Imaging Department as a national centre of excellence.
You will assist in the operational management of an effective Breast Imaging Service providing professional leadership and day to day management of all staff and resources. This also involves supporting the delivery of operational performance targets including waiting lists, financial targets and to continually improve the quality of services to patients by using best practice standards within the available income.
You will provide a professional, high quality mammographic imaging service. Working in both the symptomatic service and NHS Breast Screening Programme, producing mammograms of the highest standard. The post holder will practice for most of the time, unsupervised and often supervising Assistant practitioners, trainee Mammographers and trainee Mammography Associates.
You will also deputise for the Breast Imaging Manager.

The department at NNUH has 2 mammography rooms equipped with Full Field Digital (FFD) technology including Tomosynthesis and Contrast Enhanced Spectral Mammography CESM), and 3 ultrasound rooms. A designated FFD room for stereotactic guided biopsies able to produce 3D biopsy imaging including Contrast Enhanced Spectral Mammography Biopsies. A Faxitron machine allows for immediate core biopsy imaging at the time of biopsy.
The hospital has a fully integrated RIS and PACS system.
Breast screening is based nearer to the city centre at the Norwich Community Hospital in a static unit accommodating 2 Mammography rooms. In addition, there is a static screening unit at the Cromer District Hospital. The screening unit also has 2 mobile screening vans that cover all of picturesque rural Norfolk including many seaside locations. All equipment is full field digital technology.
- Support the Breast Imaging Manager and Clinical Director of Breast Imaging to ensure the efficient operational running of the Breast Imaging and Breast Screening departments on a daily basis, re-organising staff and workloads at short notice when necessary.
- In conjunction with the Clinical Director of Breast Imaging, represent the Trust in matters of Public Relations.
- Responsible for effective communication across all staff grades in the specialist area and act as a link between the Breast Imaging service and the Radiology Directorate in respect of operational and clinical issues.
- Work in conjunction with the Planning and Workflow Manager to plan the Breast Screening Schedule efficiently with regards to staffing levels and numbers of women to be screened, keeping with in the targets set by Breast Screening Programme.
- Support the Breast Imaging Manager and Clinical Director of Breast Imaging to monitor and evaluate all aspects of delivery of the imaging service, ensuring that QA requirements are carried out as stipulated by the National Health Service Breast Screening Programme (NHSBSP) and any necessary action is taken.
- To be responsible for the appropriate use and maintenance of all equipment and to ensure that all faults are dealt with promptly and appropriately.
- To be based at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, but to travel to the screening units as and when required. A full clean driving licence is required. Any points, fines or convictions must be notified to the Breast Imaging Manager
- To demonstrate advanced specialist skill in adapting technique and manipulation of anatomy to achieve high quality diagnostic images in patients whose condition would otherwise prevent this - without compromising care. This involves dealing with patients who are in pain and distress
- Supervise and support the clinical activities of junior staff, new staff, students and assistants working in their area, acting as a resource as required. This is a highly specialised role and involves the close monitoring of imaging standards and the effective management of available resources. It relies on advanced clinical knowledge and communication skills
- To work unsupervised and when required in a supervisory capacity with an Assistant Practitioner in either a mobile or static screening clinic. Responsible for the smooth running of the clinic, keeping within the time restraints for the imaging of each woman.
- To recognise abnormalities on mammography and seek advice from a radiologist regarding further imaging when appropriate.

Travelling to work
Staff parking is available onsite; however, this is limited during core working hours. We have more capacity in the evening and at weekends and can usually provide spaces during those hours.
We look to allocate these spaces fairly. Our Travel Office have a set of criteria that staff must meet in order to qualify. If you qualify for a space, you may be placed on a waiting list if we are at full capacity.
The NNUH is served by a number of public buses, and we offer generously discounted monthly passes with First Bus & Konect.
The Costessey Park and Ride runs regularly each day from 06:30 (from P&R) to 20:45 (from NNUH) and this service is free for NHS staff. There is a regular Thickthorn P&R service as well which is free. Applications to the Travel Office are required for this service. We also have a discounted service from the airport P&R if you purchase a bundle. Please see Konect website for further details.
The NNUH host multiple bicycle racks and a salary sacrifice scheme. We also benefit from a Beryl station onsite.
