We are looking for an enthusiastic, well motivated and skilled band 6 Occupational Therapist to join our Acute Occupational Therapy/Physiotherapy Integrated Team working across all ward areas and departments within Orthopaedics. The work is primarily based on the Burnley General Hospital site however there will be some expectation to cross cover at Royal Blackburn Hospital. You will need to be forward thinking, have a passion for humanising patients’ recovery and have a problem solving approach to patient management. The ability to work within a fast paced and pressured environment is essential, along with having excellent communication and interpersonal skills and demonstration of the ability to support other team members. You will have a wide range of clinical expertise in multiple settings. You will be responsible for the provision of occupational therapy assessment, intervention and discharge planning / stepping down of patients with multiple, sometimes complex, diagnoses. You will also need to work independently as well as with other members of the MDT, in order to provide a patient centred service, working to identify holistic short and long term goals, and rehabilitation plans. There will be the opportunity to develop your orthopaedic skills and knowledge, whilst continuing to embed the role of occupational therapy in this setting. You will participate in service improvement, new models of working, clinical audit and continued professional development.

Occupational Therapists carry out independent, holistic professional assessments of a person’s needs, with regard to independent living and functioning/ occupational performance. Occupational Therapy intervention is provided on the basis of that assessment. The post holder will be responsible for the provision of an Occupational Therapy service at a specialist level for the designated area. This post will involve carrying a defined caseload of patients that require specialist Occupational Therapy skills. The post holder will implement the Occupational Therapy process with patients presenting with a variety of complex needs. Patients will have chronic, complex, disabling, or challenging conditions. The post holder will be an autonomous practitioner, responsible for providing specialist Occupational Therapy assessment, treatment, rehabilitation for orthopaedic patients and provide advice to other multi agency professionals, junior staff and Occupational Therapy students. The post holder will have responsibility for monitoring, organising and supervising junior members of the Occupational Therapy Service including Occupational Therapists, support staff and students. Assist the lead OT in planning, co-ordinating, delivering and evaluating of the OT service provided. The post-holder will act as a source of expertise and demonstrate advanced knowledge, skill and experience in their role.

- Please note that the salary advertised is for full time hours. If this post is less than 37.5 hours per week, the salary will be pro-rata. For posts on Agenda for Change pay-scales, new entrants to the NHS will normally commence on the first pay point of the relevant band.

The healthcare sector is exempted from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.
In line with other NHS organisations in the North West Region, the Trust is now passing the charge for undertaking a DBS check on to candidates in the event they are successfully appointed into the post for which they have applied. Candidates can choose whether to pay this over 1-3 months as a deduction from the monthly salary. However, if you are applying for a post as a BANK worker, the payment must be made in full at the time of employment checks. By applying for this vacancy you are agreeing to this undertaking in the event you are successfully appointed.
The cost of an Enhanced Disclosure will be £42.90 and for a Standard Disclosure £22.90 which includes a small handling fee.
