Evelina London cares for local children in Lambeth and Southwark and provides specialist services across south east England including cardiac, renal and critical care services. We lead a number of specialist service networks aiming to ensure children are treated locally where possible, but have access to specialist expertise when they need it. Our community services include health visiting, school nursing and support for families of children with long-term conditions.
Our adult community services teams deliver care at the heart of the local communities we serve, working in partnership with GPs, local authorities and other healthcare and voluntary sector organisations. Working with our partners in Lambeth and Southwark, we are focusing on new ways of working to improve care for local patients.
In February 2021 the Royal Brompton and Harefield joined Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, bringing together world-leading expertise in the care and research of heart and lung disease. Our merger provides a once in a generation opportunity to build a lasting, world-renowned heart and lung centre, providing the highest quality care for patients and conducting world-leading research.

Job overview
We are looking for highly motivated, enthusiastic senior staff nurses to join our team within the private patients’ services unit.
Sir Reginald Ward is a 28 bedded private patient cardiothoracic surgical and cardio-respiratory medicine ward with a multidisciplinary team of highly skilled and motivated staff, who provide high quality care to patients requiring a variety of specialist care.
You will support the Ward Manager and your colleagues to maintain a high standard of patient care, and take charge of the ward on a regular basis. We’ll also look to you to act as a role model in supporting and developing junior members of the team.

As a senior staff nurse on the ward, you must be able to take charge of the ward, support junior members of the team and demonstrate leadership skills within the clinical environment. Using advanced skills and knowledge, be able to work alongside the Ward Sisters and Practice Educators, ensuring safety of our patients and that a high level of care is delivered and maintained.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Applicants for Band 6 Nursing posts will need to possess leadership skills, the ability to problem solve and to liaise and co-ordinate effectively with members of the wider MDT .
As a band 6 Nurse you will have the ability to support the Ward Sister/ Charge Nurse and a unified approach in supporting junior staff and nursing students in practice.
Your duties will include:
Promoting high quality clinical care to our patients. Assisting with the development of the ward, using evidence based practice and trust standards.
Assisting with the safety of delivered care and the ward environment using audits, monitoring and service improvement initiatives.
Assisting the Ward Sister/Charge Nurse in creating a rewarding, stimulating and supportive environment.
Rota management and staff allocation.
Practice assessment and supervision of junior staff and mentoring of student Nurses.
Deputising for the Ward Sister/Charge Nurse in their absence.
Promoting staff health and well-being.
