Evelina London cares for local children in Lambeth and Southwark and provides specialist services across south east England including cardiac, renal and critical care services. We lead a number of specialist service networks aiming to ensure children are treated locally where possible, but have access to specialist expertise when they need it. Our community services include health visiting, school nursing and support for families of children with long-term conditions.
Our adult community services teams deliver care at the heart of the local communities we serve, working in partnership with GPs, local authorities and other healthcare and voluntary sector organisations. Working with our partners in Lambeth and Southwark, we are focusing on new ways of working to improve care for local patients.

Job overview
The directorate is looking to provide a varied training to doctors who completed their foundation years and currently on CT1/CT2 (SHO) level across the two surgical disciplines of cardiovascular surgery (Vascular and Cardiac Surgery).
This post is mainly on the Cardiac Surgery side however all Junior Clinical Fellows/FY3 in Cardiovascular Surgery will undertake a rolling 8-week rota covering inpatients, theatres sessions, outpatients, as-well as providing on-call cover to the specialties during the day and night. It is expected that by the summation of the 6 month post, doctors will have had experience in both surgical
disciplines.

Although this post is not recognized as a training post by the London Deanery, the post is aimed at junior doctors seeking to gain more clinical and practical experience in the wide spectrum of Cardiovascular surgery, prior to embarking on ST training at either the ST1/2 or higher level. The post offers excellent training and development opportunities.
On a rotating basis the post holder will be based on the cardiovascular wards, the Hybrid theatre, operating theatres, on-call shifts and outpatients on a supernumerary basis. All of these activities will have the support of a registrar and a consultant in one of the three disciplines.
Regular consultant-led teaching on specialist topics are provided and there are weekly multidisciplinary meetings for intervention and imaging that provide excellent training opportunities

The directorate would like to appoint a proactive and highly-motivated individual on a 6 month Fixed Term Contract with the possibility of extension to 1 year. The successful applicant will be mentored throughout the duration of their post to improve their clinical and academic portfolio in readiness for their application onto either a core surgical or specialist training programme. This includes the opportunity to contribute to medical school teaching at King’s College London and post-graduate teaching at GSTT. Those without the MRCS qualification will be encouraged to attend the reputable St Thomas’ MRCS Course which is run by our department. All our Consultants have a research portfolio and there are numerous new and ongoing projects which the post holder would be able to contribute to with the aim of gaining first author publications and presentations at national/international meetings.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Although not recognized as a training post by the London Deanery, this post is aimed at trainees seeking to improve their clinical, surgical and academic portfolio in readiness for applications to training programmes at Nodal Point 3 or higher.
The post holder will rotate through the operating theatres and
cardiovascular wards and contribute to the busy and exciting on-call rota. They will be encouraged to attend outpatients on a supernumerary basis for further clinical experience. The post holder will always be supported by a Registrar, Consultant and our Clinical Nurse Specialists at all times.
