Guy’s and St Thomas’ is among the UK’s busiest and most successful NHS foundation trusts. We provide a full range of hospital and community services for people in south London and as well as specialist care for patients from further afield including cancer, renal, orthopaedic, respiratory and cardiovascular services.
Guy’s is home to the largest dental school in Europe and a £160 million Cancer Centre opened in 2016. As part of our commitment to provide care closer to home, in 2017 we also opened a cancer centre and a kidney treatment centre at Queen Mary’s Hospital in Sidcup. St Thomas’ has one of the largest critical care units in the UK and one of the busiest emergency departments in London. It is also home to Evelina London Children’s Hospital.
Evelina London cares for local children in Lambeth and Southwark and provides specialist services across south east England including cardiac, renal and critical care services. We lead a number of specialist service networks aiming to ensure children are treated locally where possible, but have access to specialist expertise when they need it. Our community services include health visiting, school nursing and support for families of children with long-term conditions.
Our adult community services teams deliver care at the heart of the local communities we serve, working in partnership with GPs, local authorities and other healthcare and voluntary sector organisations. Working with our partners in Lambeth and Southwark, we are focusing on new ways of working to improve care for local patients.
In February 2021 the Royal Brompton and Harefield joined Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, bringing together world-leading expertise in the care and research of heart and lung disease. Our merger provides a once in a generation opportunity to build a lasting, world-renowned heart and lung centre, providing the highest quality care for patients and conducting world-leading research.

The Head of Delivery – Transformation & Programme Management will be a member of the senior leadership group of the CITI Delivery function, leading on the development of a transformation and programme management capability group and community.
The post-holder will be one of the trust’s leading experts in the theory and practice of transformation and programme management, with expertise in operationalisation of innovation. They will have a tangible impact by leading and influencing the many varied teams, networks and leaders in the trust to bring about implementation of large scale transformation and innovation across the Trust.
The post-holder will lead a number of initiatives and direct teams to scope, plan, deliver and measure change initiatives.
The post holder will at times be required to bring external expertise into the organisation. As such, they will work with other agencies and health care providers, identifying the need for and initiating contact with external experts, and scoping their involvement

The change focus and the need to work across the organisation means that there is an even greater demand on their credibility and persuasion skills. Working for our organisation
The Delivery team is part of the newly established Centre for Innovation, Transformation, and Improvement (CITI).
CITI at Guy’s and St Thomas’ was newly founded in 2021 under the Deputy Chief Executive (DCE). The DCE is the Executive Director responsible for leading and implementing the Trust’s strategy for innovation and improvement, which aims to develop an ecosystem that encourages the acceleration of new knowledge and capabilities and learn from best practices globally, to deliver improvements in patient care, research and education at scale. CITI co-locates multi-faceted teams to provide the focal point for clinical innovators and services seeking to translate ideas or early stage products or improvements into clinical practice. The Centre aims both to incubate and deliver innovations and improvement ideas, projects and programmes, working alongside and for its clinical customers for the benefit of patients.
CITI builds on industry best practice in taking innovation from concept to practice. It aims to foster a culture of innovation and improvement throughout the Trust, and acts as the intellectual home of our core change methodologies.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Together with the other members of the senior Delivery team, develop management and operational processes to govern, monitor, track and report on the activities of the Delivery function. Whilst working effectively and collaboratively with all levels of the organisation acting as a subject matter expert, advising the Executives and other senior leaders on quality improvement developments.
The post holder will also take the organisational lead for key change initiative where the complexity and/or cross organisational impact (incl. financial) requires senior and experienced leadership to ensure delivery, especially (but not exclusively) where there is an improvement or improvement system component to the initiative.

- Highly developed knowledge and extensive experience in scoping improvement methodologies, developing implementation plans and tracking progress and benefits.
- Extensive experience leading senior teams (managers and senior managers) to deliver large complex programmes.
- Design, development, implementation, and management of change in a multiple stakeholder environment and experience of passing on project improvement to others.
- Extensive, comprehensive experience of senior staff performance management in large and complex organisations, including motivating, developing, and coaching to meet appropriate deadlines.
