We are looking for an enthusiastic, highly skilled and ambitious Band 7 to come and join our Cardiothoracic Theatre Team as the Paediatric / Congenital Team Leader in the outstanding Freeman Hospital.
We are interested in hearing from Theatre Practitioners who have extensive theatre scrub experience that are looking to further develop their strong leadership and managerial skills.
Paediatric / Congenital Cardiothoracic scrub experience is desirable however not essential as training in the specialty will be given.
It is a demanding but rewarding post supporting our cardiothoracic surgical activity. Our unit has 5 operating theatres that work to full capacity, one of which is an emergency theatre. You will receive excellent support and supervision from our Matron, Senior Nursing Staff, Clinical Educator and the rest of our clinical team.
You will need to be a Registered Nurse or Registered ODP with experience at Band 6 level in theatre scrub and have a post registration qualification.
You will have a flexible attitude, excellent communication skills and thrive working in a busy theatre department

• To provide a visible, accessible and authoritative clinical presence to staff, children, young people and their families, taking responsibility to ensure the safety and quality of theatre practice within theatres is met.
• To assess, plan, implement and evaluate care provision in partnership with the child, family and all members of the multi-disciplinary team.
• Ensure all equipment and resources are available to perform procedures according to the individual needs of the child.
• When required, provide day today support to the clinical areas ensuring appropriate concerns are escalated to Matron and Clinical Director
• Demonstrate expert knowledge and skills in use of surgical equipment covering individual specialities and surgeon preferences, updating and implementing new Practices
• To lead, delegate and liaise with all members of the multi-disciplinary team ensuring appropriate skill levels and experience are available to ensure a safe patient journey through the department.
• Ensure policies / protocols are updated, monitored and maintained to continually improve patient care.
• To lead the preparation and checking of theatre, making ready for use all equipment and instruments for the daily theatre list.
• Ensure all cleaning and maintenance is undertaken on a daily and as required basis.
• Ensure all faults are reported and rectified effectively and efficiently.
• Identify and act upon risks using the risk management process

- The Senior Sister / Charge Nurse / SODP has 24 hour accountability, including line managing for their ward / department. They must deliver quality nursing care by ensuring appropriate systems and processes are in place to ensure the continuity of safe and effective care at all times.
