Guy’s and St Thomas’ is among the UK’s busiest and most successful NHS foundation trusts. We provide a full range of hospital and community services for people in south London and as well as specialist care for patients from further afield including cancer, renal, orthopaedic, respiratory and cardiovascular services.
Guy’s is home to the largest dental school in Europe and a £160 million Cancer Centre opened in 2016. As part of our commitment to provide care closer to home, in 2017 we also opened a cancer centre and a kidney treatment centre at Queen Mary’s Hospital in Sidcup. St Thomas’ has one of the largest critical care units in the UK and one of the busiest emergency departments in London. It is also home to Evelina London Children’s Hospital.
Evelina London cares for local children in Lambeth and Southwark and provides specialist services across south east England including cardiac, renal and critical care services. We lead a number of specialist service networks aiming to ensure children are treated locally where possible, but have access to specialist expertise when they need it. Our community services include health visiting, school nursing and support for families of children with long-term conditions.
Our adult community services teams deliver care at the heart of the local communities we serve, working in partnership with GPs, local authorities and other healthcare and voluntary sector organisations. Working with our partners in Lambeth and Southwark, we are focusing on new ways of working to improve care for local patients.
In February 2021 the Royal Brompton and Harefield joined Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, bringing together world-leading expertise in the care and research of heart and lung disease. Our merger provides a once in a generation opportunity to build a lasting, world-renowned heart and lung centre, providing the highest quality care for patients and conducting world-leading research.

A great opportunity has arisen for a Fire Safety Training Manager to join our Team, to provide the necessary leadership to embed fire safety training across the Trust.
The post holder will join a dynamic and skilled team which provides fundamental assistance to clinical and non-clinical teams in understanding and implementing all fire life safety legal and statutory requirements.
We are seeking individuals with a proven track record in handling training across a large complex workforce and estate, providing professional expertise and service. The successful candidate will have strong presentation skills and be able to provide assurance of compliance levels across the Trust.
Experience in the correct Standards, Regulations and Guidelines is essential.

Main Duties and Responsibilities All fire related training will be managed and conducted by the Fire training manager. They will be responsible for carrying out all fire safety training and providing data to demonstrate completed sessions. The role will include, but is not limited to: |
· Work closely with Clinical teams to create training schedules · Basic fire safety and the fire safety protocols; · Fire safety responsibilities and reporting structures; · Actions to take on discovering a fire; · Actions to take on hearing the fire alarm; · Procedures for evacuation; · Staff responsibilities during a fire incident; · Specialist roles (switchboard staff, estates staff, Fire Wardens, local security management specialist etc.); · Review online training materials and documentation · Provide & maintain all records · Planning Quality & Improvement initiatives · Good communication skills |

Performance Management
All fire related training will be managed and conducted by the Fire training manager, and will be responsible to carry out all fire training which will include but not limited to:
Fire Safety awareness
Evacuation The fire training manager will arrange and carry out the fire drills and manage general fire safety with the Trust, which is where the coordinator role will be key to making this successful.
Unit Specific Evacuation Plans (USEP’s) Additional training should be provided to meet the special needs of particular locations and for those staff who have special responsibilities.
The fire safety training manager will advise the Fire Safety manager and to help coordinate, advise and support all fire safety training requirements on existing sites and infrastructure and within the capital development department.
An effective programme of fire safety training will enable staff to learn about and practise basic actions and to appreciate the wider implications of the fire safety strategy, including:

Education & Training · Provide fire training at induction, maintain online training, fire warden training, mandatory fire training clinical staff, ward evacuation and special training as appropriate (fire teams). · Undertake the delivery of organising and providing staff fire warden training for all departments and continuity as required under the Fire Code Policy. · Undertake as required induction, fire training and fire warden training in line with fire safety Training programme for all types and levels of staff within the Trust · To be responsible for training equipment used in the department. · To keep an inventory of equipment, arrange for maintenance as appropriate and the purchase (via the Supplies Department) of necessary educational equipment in accordance with prevailing budgetary arrangements · To assist in promoting a high standard of fire safety education for all staff, including in service training in the form of lectures and practical demonstrations and advising on fire prevention aspect within the Trust. · To plan, execute and monitor the effectiveness of comprehensive Fire Safety training

- Demonstrable experience in problem solving in order to assist in developing robust evacuation plans and fire training strategies within the workplace, with significant experience gained in the process to ensure legal compliance in accordance with the various Acts of Parliament and Local by-laws required under health & safety an appreciation of the intricate language of legal documents etc.

- Trained and experienced in Staff training. Excellent interpersonal communication (written and oral) skills
