On 1 April 2019 Cwm Taf University Health Board changed its name to Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board as it took responsibility for providing healthcare services for the people in the Bridgend County Borough area. Cwm Taf Morgannwg UHB now provides primary, community, hospital, and mental health services to the 450,000 people living in three County Boroughs – Bridgend, Merthyr Tydfil, and Rhondda Cynon Taf.
Ideally situated between Wales’s capital city, Cardiff, to the south, the coastal town of Porthcawl to the west, and the stunning scenery of the Brecon Beacons to the north, we operate within a vibrant community, rich in history and heritage.

Special role (as ENT Clinical Education Fellow)
This post builds on an established programme since 2016 of undergraduate medical education, delivering a clinical ENT weekly teaching module within the C21 year 3 ‘Surgery & Oncology’ block in the Princess of Wales Hospital (PoWH), as well as ENT lectures and clinical demonstrations to Foundation Trainees and allied healthcare professionals in the MPEC (Multi Professional Educational Centre) and across PoWH.
The post holder will work closely with PoWH ENT trainee and consultant colleagues, planning and delivering the week-long ENT Programme clinical module (aligned to the C21 and ENTUK SFO core curriculums) to Year 3 students in rotation during their 8-weeks PoWH placement (x4 blocks per annum), mostly utilising small group (2 or 3 students) teaching with an enhanced system for student feedback and support. This one-week ENT Programme is currently delivered over 7 structured sessions per week. The medical school are also committed to the development and expansion of e-learning and facilities so the post holder will be expected to provide and demonstrate a range of clinical materials in order to enhance the taught core ENT module.

This post will join the team responsible for the provision of all Ear Nose and Throat (ENT) services to the Local Health Board in Cwm Taf Morgannwg.
The post will be required to support the delivery of inpatient and emergency ENT services for the local population and in doing so foster excellent working relationships within and outside the specialist area, including medical, nursing, secretarial and support staff, General Practitioners and Management Teams.
The post will be part of the 1:5 on-call rota within the ENT department in the Princess of Wales Hospital. Currently junior on-call roster days include mid-week and weekends, 8am-8pm, with no overnight duty) but middle-grade on-call roster includes overnight. This may be subject to change.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

RELATIONSHIPS
The successful candidate will be one of a number of ENT Specialty Junior Doctors who will be supported by a team of consultants, junior doctors, and Nursing team.
The role will cover all aspects of ENT services working at junior / middle grade level. This is an ideal opportunity for candidates who wish to gain wider experience in ENT specialties in an acute setting. The post holder will be required to work on the junior or middle grade doctor on-call rota (as appropriate for experience) for Princess of Wales Hospital.
A wide range of general experience is a requirement, and special interests, which complement existing services, will be supported.

CLINICAL DUTIES
- To be actively involved in the management and decision making for patients.
- To be available during the working week so that medical and nursing staff can communicate and consult freely.
- To contribute with the multi-disciplinary team in the use of referenced, evidence based guidelines, which are dated, signed and reviewed at least bi-annually or more frequently in light of new evidence.
- You may be expected to make independent clinical decisions, but will receive appropriate training/supervision.
- Ensure that an appropriate model of care is adopted which recognises the involvement of the multi-disciplinary team, the patient and family.
- Work with the rest of the clinical team to support the delivery of a high quality service provided by well-trained staff within clear departmental policies and procedures.
- Develop and maintain good communication with clinical colleagues across the Health Board, regarding the treatment of their patients, and the appropriate use of the department’s resources.
- Required to participate in the Health Board Risk Management process and in Clinical Audit and other clinical governance activities within the department, the directorate and the Health Board. The post holder will be positively encouraged to participate in research and development in line with Health Board, Commissioner and NHS priorities.
- Work to ensure that services within the department fulfil contractual performance indicators and work closely with directorate colleagues in identifying problem areas and planning and implementing appropriate solutions

EDUCATION AND TRAINING

ENT Clinical Education Fellow
- Acting as tutor / mentor for Cardiff Year 3 students during their ENT teaching 1-week course (included in the C21 programme within the Surgery & Oncology block).
- Delivering and development of teaching clinics to run alongside general and specialist ENT clinics and theatre lists.
- Facilitating and conducting ENT tutorials during the C21 ‘Surgery & Oncology’ module
- ENT Clinical demonstrations.

AUDIT

- The post holder will be encouraged to initiate/ undertake research and QI projects (including mentoring medical students to complete case reports and other projects) for local, regional and national presentation.
MANAGEMENT
- The post holder will be required to co-operate with local management in the efficient running of services.
- There is a requirement to work within the financial and other constraints decided upon by the Health Board. Additional expenses of any kind must not be committed without the approval of the appropriate manager/budget holder.
- The post holder will be expected to comply with local and national employment and personnel policies and procedures in the management of employees of the Health Board.
- Subject to the Terms and Conditions of Service, the post holder will be expected to observe policies and procedures of the Health Board, drawn up in consultation with the professions where they involve clinical matters.
