We are looking for a highly motivated and passionate Clinical/ Counselling Psychologist to lead our Acute Psychology Service in Kensington & Chelsea and Westminster . The Acute Psychology Pathway provides integrated psychological care to services users from our six adult inpatient wards at the St Charles Mental Health Unit and other parts of the urgent care pathway including Home Treatment Teams (HTT) and Mental Health Crisis Assessment Services. Continuity of psychological care is delivered across the whole system, with intervention from this pathway following service users’ treatment journey from acute services to the community Hubs and other community support..
The post-holder will be expected to take a leading role on the continued facilitation and ongoing development of a Trauma-Informed Approaches (TIA) model for the adult acute mental health services. The postholder will also oversee and support psychology staff providing input into the Urgent Care Clinical Pathway, including Home Treatment Teams and other Mental Health Crisis Assessment services.
A key task of the role will be to lead on the continued facilitation and ongoing development of the Trauma-Informed Approache (TIA) model for the adult acute mental health services.

Main Duties
- The post-holder will co-ordinate and manage psychology provision to the Adult wards based within the St Charles Mental Health Centre based in North Kensington.
- The postholder will also manage psychology staff providing input into the Urgent Care Clinical Pathway, including Home Treatment Teams and other Mental Health Crisis Assessment services.
- To provide a lead role in the ongoing development and implementation of Trauma-Informed Approaches (TIA) within acute mental health services.
- To maintain a program of supervision and training for staff from all disciplines with the aim of embedding TIA and psychologically oriented patient care
- To work alongside senior clinical and managerial staff to improve and maintain the quality of the acute service user experience
- To support in the development of junior nursing staff and associate practitioners to deliver appropriate low-intensity psychosocial interventions.
- To hold management, clinical and professional supervision responsibilities for the psychology staff within the acute services as well as other clinical staff as required.
- To provide supervision and consultation to acute staff through appropriate forums including reflective practice groups and community meetings.
- To work in conjunction with the acute and community teams to ensure seamless patient pathways and rapid assessments of patients’ needs
- To contribute to the care planning process to ensure that patients’ psychological and personal recovery needs are given due consideration.
- To work in partnership with the existing acute therapies teams to ensure the availability of a comprehensive and effective programme of ward-based therapeutic groups and activities.
- To directly provide evidence-based psychological therapies to individuals, groups or family systems.
- To act as a point of liaison between the acute psychology pathway and the community psychology pathway.
- To provide a lead role in the development of co-production work within the in-patient units by maintaining the co-production projects already established, developing these across the other acute services as well as supporting and facilitating the development of co-production within the workforce as a whole.
- To assist in the development of routine systems for measurement of the quality of the acute psychology provision.
- To ensure that there are efficient systems in place to effectively manage referrals, waiting lists, recording of clinical activity, performance reporting including Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s).
- To utilize research skills for audit, policy and service development and research within the area served by the service.
- To offer leadership and management support within the acute services, as negotiated and agreed with the relevant service manager/lead psychologist.
- Where required, to act as a deputy for the Psychological therapies service including attendance at key meetings and policy forums. The post-holder may also be asked to represent the psychological therapies service in Trust-wide forums and meetings.

- Doctoral level training in clinical / counselling psychology or its equivalent, including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology as accredited by the BPS.
- Professional registration as a practitioner psychologist with the Health and Social Care Professions Council
- Formal training in the supervision of psychological therapies

- Post-Doctoral training in clinical approaches relevant to work with complex and severe mental health difficulties such a 3rd wave cognitive behavioural therapies or systemic work.
- Pre-qualification training and qualifications in health or neuro psychology, research methodology, staff training and/or other fields of applied psychology
EXPERIENCE

- Substantial post qualification experience of working in mental health settings, including specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients across a full range of care settings
- Experience of working in acute and urgent care mental health settings, working with a range of age ranges, cultures and clinical groups.
- Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse.
- Post qualification experience of working with adults affected by psychological trauma.
- Experience of line management and provision of clinical supervision to psychologists or other professionals.
- Experience of the application of clinical psychology in different cultural and specialist contexts including work with interpreters.

- Knowledge and awareness of the trauma informed approach.
- Knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised psychological therapies in specific difficult to treat groups (e.g. personality disorder, dual diagnoses, people with additional disabilities, autistic spectrum disorders).
- Well-developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS.
- Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups.
- Doctoral level knowledge of research methodology, research design and complex, multivariate data analysis as practiced within the clinical fields of psychology.
- Knowledge of legislation in relation to the client group & mental health.
