Guy’s and St Thomas’ is among the UK’s busiest and most successful NHS foundation trusts. We provide a full range of hospital and community services for people in south London and as well as specialist care for patients from further afield including cancer, renal, orthopaedic, respiratory and cardiovascular services.
Guy’s is home to the largest dental school in Europe and a £160 million Cancer Centre opened in 2016. As part of our commitment to provide care closer to home, in 2017 we also opened a cancer centre and a kidney treatment centre at Queen Mary’s Hospital in Sidcup. St Thomas’ has one of the largest critical care units in the UK and one of the busiest emergency departments in London. It is also home to Evelina London Children’s Hospital.
Evelina London cares for local children in Lambeth and Southwark and provides specialist services across south east England including cardiac, renal and critical care services. We lead a number of specialist service networks aiming to ensure children are treated locally where possible, but have access to specialist expertise when they need it. Our community services include health visiting, school nursing and support for families of children with long-term conditions.
Our adult community services teams deliver care at the heart of the local communities we serve, working in partnership with GPs, local authorities and other healthcare and voluntary sector organisations. Working with our partners in Lambeth and Southwark, we are focusing on new ways of working to improve care for local patients.
In February 2021 the Royal Brompton and Harefield joined Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, bringing together world-leading expertise in the care and research of heart and lung disease. Our merger provides a once in a generation opportunity to build a lasting, world-renowned heart and lung centre, providing the highest quality care for patients and conducting world-leading research.

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, caring and organized administrator to join the ward administration team within the Heart Division, Royal Brompton Hospital.
The role will involve interacting with a variety of people within the organization, as you will be providing administrative support to the clinical staff across multiple areas.
The ideal candidate for this role will have excellent interpersonal skills, be caring, strong communication skills, excellent attention to detail and will have experience in a busy office environment working proactively and using your own initiative.

You will be working with the Matrons, Ward managers, Nurses and Doctors and other administrators on a daily basis, to ensure that there is appropriate administration support within the Heart division. This will include admitting and discharging patients on the hospitals patient admission system, booking outpatient appointments, transport and liaising with other departments in the hospital to ensure that the patient journey is efficient and stress free and general administration needs.
This service is provided 7 days a week, inclusive of Bank holidays and is covered by a pro rata system inclusive of early, late and long days.

The principal role of the ward administrator is to maintain the administrative systems relating to the admission, transfers and discharge of patients to and from the wards.
Maintain a good working relationship with internal and external departments, dealing with all queries in a professional manner.
Assist in the reception of patients to the ward and ensure that they are comfortable, welcomed accordingly and dealt with by the relevant nursing staff.
To be responsible for the management of the Trust PAS/ Lorenzo system and patient medical files, ensuring that all records are accurately maintained, correctly tracked and available for nursing and medical staff, clinical coders and research teams.
To be responsible for the collection of data via the Delayed Discharge database, ensuring that any patient in breach of their predicted discharge date has a diagnosis recorded so as to look at areas of clinical service improvement.
To supervise the training of any relief cover, ensuring competency in all aspects of the role and to be responsible for the arrangement of holiday cover.
To be flexible in the approach to the clinical area and trained in all aspects of administration in all the wards within the surgical Heart Division, in order that are able to offer relief cover during times of sickness leave and no available cover.
To use relevant IT systems in the support of patient care and provide support at a specialist level, with the guarantee that a quality of service is maintained.
To provide any administrative and clerical support to the multi-disciplinary team
