The Legal Services Childcare Team is looking for a Community Services Lawyer.

The requirement for this post is that you must be a qualified Solicitor or Barrister or a Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives with proven experience PQE.
We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Community Services Lawyer to join the Legal Services Childcare Team.
The post holder will play a key role in providing a comprehensive and efficient legal service to Children’s Services dealing primarily with care proceedings but also to include Placement Orders, Adoption and PLO and general children’s social care matters.
The work includes advising on disclosure and Data Protection, redacting information prior to service, attending Legal Planning Meetings, PLO meetings and being on the duty lawyer rota.
This is a full time/ 35 hour post but four days/ 28 hours may be considered. Hybrid working will also be necessary i.e WFH and Office Based.
This post is for a lawyer who is able to work within a team and support others in the team, to work with clients directly and on occasion, may be required to attend Court although advocacy is not the main role of this vacancy.

You will be working within the child care team within the legal services department responsible for dealing with legal advice on all children issues, PLO pre proceedings, public law and private law proceedings, adoption, placement orders, JR’s, DOL’s, Secure Accommodation Orders
The post has a number of key duties but also involves competent use of case management system, Court portal and Caselines.. You must be adaptable, flexible and able to prioritise tasks on a daily basis.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The primary function of the post will be to work collaboratively with colleagues within the team to deliver services dealing with child care matters.
We are looking for a lawyer (solicitors, barristers or FILEX) with a minimum of two years post qualification experience in the legal profession or exceptional experience of shorter duration.
You will have knowledge of child care and other associated areas of law such as adoption, placement orders, DOL’s, Judicial Reviews and have experience of child care litigation. You will have to be highly motivated and a team player.

- A thorough knowledge of the law and practice relating to social services including childcare, adoption, judicial review, community care and mental health.
Skills
Essential criteria
- Thorough knowledge of Judicial Review Process and the procedure of the High Court, County Court and Magistrates Court in relation to Social Services Law.
- Ability to communicate well in writing and verbally with good presentation skills.
- Ability to obtain evidence, evaluate evidence, prepare cases and appear as an advocate on behalf of the Council in Courts Tribunals and Inquiries, particularly in the Family Proceedings court and Magistrates court.
- Ability to work with minimum supervision and as part of a team.
- Ability to comply with good practice management standards as laid down by the Law Society or other relevant body.
- Ability to use Information Technology for the purpose of casework and the provision of performance and management information.
- Ability to adhere to the Council’s Dignity for All Policy
