Guy’s is home to the largest dental school in Europe and a £160 million Cancer Centre opened in 2016. St Thomas’ has one of the largest critical care units in the UK and one of the busiest emergency departments in London. It is also home to Evelina London Children’s Hospital.
Evelina London cares for local children in Lambeth and Southwark and provides specialist services across south east England including cardiac, renal and critical care services. We lead a number of specialist service networks aiming to ensure children are treated locally where possible, but have access to specialist expertise when they need it. Our community services include health visiting, school nursing and support for families of children with long-term conditions.
Our adult community services teams deliver care at the heart of the local communities we serve, working in partnership with GPs, local authorities and other healthcare and voluntary sector organisations. Working with our partners in Lambeth and Southwark, we are focusing on new ways of working to improve care for local patients.
In February 2021 the Royal Brompton and Harefield joined Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, bringing together world-leading expertise in the care and research of heart and lung disease. Our merger provides a once in a generation opportunity to build a lasting, world-renowned heart and lung centre, providing the highest quality care for patients and conducting world-leading research.

An exciting opportunity has become available within the Echo Department for Lead Adult Echocardiographer position.
This post is a secondment fixed term contract for 12 months.
Advert
To lead & develop the day to day operations of the adult Echocardiography (echo) service at the Royal Brompton Hospital. To use expert knowledge in Adult Echocardiography to provide clinical input in line with this. To supervise adult research projects within the department
To critically review echo working practices in the department and keep abreast of new developments and trends within echocardiography and to initiate these as required.
To manage and monitor the demand and capacity of the Adult echo service
To implement and keep up to date standard operating procedures within adult echocardiography
To establish and maintain a system of risk assessment for the adult echo service
To be responsible for the planning and implementing of Adult Echo training programmes for cardiac physiologists, research fellows and junior medical staff. To assess their progress and where appropriate organise their rotation within the department
To be responsible where appropriate, for the continuing professional development and overall performance of all Adult Echocardiography staff.
To maintain a high standard of clinical practice and act as a role model for junior members of staff within echo department.

As one of the largest echocardiography services in the UK, we offer the full complement of specialist echo services to our cardiac & respiratory teams at Royal Brompton Hospital and support cardio-oncology services for the Royal Marsden Hospitals.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Manage the daily operations of the service and act as a central resource for physiologist, administration, nursing and medical teams.
Co-ordinate service provision across multiple sites through preparation of the weekly roster for a large and multi-disciplinary team. This involves ensuring adequate skill mix and individual requirements such as training plans and personal development.
Ensure adequate resource allocation by ensuring staff are being deployed in most effective way so that the service will not be compromised. This involves communication across multiple disciplines and also triaging patient lists to ensure that patients are seen within an appropriate time.
