Job overview
We would like to recruit a Trainee ACP to the Urology Service diagnostic team. You will be joining our experienced team of ANPs/ACPs in delivering diagnostic services in the bladder cancer and prostate cancer pathways.
We are looking for highly motivated, organised, caring and proactive individuals who would like to become a Trainee ACP. As a Trainee ACP you will undertake a structured academic and clinical training programme and be supported as part of a wider ACP team.
The diagnostic team works within the outpatient service and delivers flexible cystoscopy clinics; triage and assessment of patients with suspected prostate cancer and prostate biopsy clinics (transrectal and transperineal). The main focus of the role will require you to work closely with the other nurse practitioners/ACPs in the diagnostic team, as well as working with the uro-oncology nursing team & members of the wider multidisciplinary team in the different cancer pathways and linking with benign services. You will not only be performing advanced skilled interventions but you will be using your clinical expertise to interpret your findings, make further requests for other diagnostics, as well as referring on to further practitioners or GP.

The primary role of this post is to deliver the flexible cystoscopy clinics as part of the Bladder Pathway and to deliver the nurse led clinics and prostate biopsy clinics (TRUS and LATP) . These are based at the Churchill Hospital. The service works collaboratively alongside the outpatient team, uro-oncology nurse specialist team and Urology Consultants.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Job Summary:
- Employed as a trainee role within the urology diagnostics team, to successfully complete the Advanced Clinical Practice (ACP) Master’s Degree (MSc Level 7) programme in line with the Health Education England (HEE) Multi-professional Framework for Advanced Clinical Practice, and their primary professional regulatory body
- To work towards fulfilling the expectations and core capabilities of an ACP as set out in the HEE Multi-professional Framework for Advanced Clinical Practice in England. This will be achieved through workplace-based assessments in clinical practice, with a named clinical supervisor, and clinical supervision in own service/speciality area
- The trainee role will be supported in their professional development and wellbeing, in order to prepare for transition to a qualified ACP role on achievement of the academic requirements, and evidence of workplace-based capability and competence within their service/speciality.
- The trainee will be expected to demonstrate and develop proficiency across the four pillars of Advanced Clinical Practice, namely Clinical, Leadership and Management, Education and Research
Urology Service:
The Urology ACPs/Advanced Nurse Practitioner roles are varied and interesting centred on patient diagnosis.
The following duties are specific to the ACP/ANP role. It is unlikely that you will become competent in all these duties; where possible personal interest will be taken into consideration but service requirements will take priority when deciding your place within the team. You will receive any training necessary to become competent within this role in keeping with the band 7 job description, national and local requirements eg. IRMER training required for requesting radiology scans.
- Requesting of radiology diagnostic and staging scans - according to local protocol.
- Flexible cystoscopy – bladder cancer checks and once fully experienced diagnostic cystoscopy.
- Prostate biopsy – including Direct Access clinics, trans-rectal ultrasound biopsy, insertion of fiducial markers, LATP and MRI targeted biopsy.
