Job overview
This is an exciting time to join the Synnovis team. Synnovis formed a new pathology partnership with Guy’s and St Thomas,’ and King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trusts to deliver and transform NHS pathology services across South East London on 1 April 2021. The new partnership will provide diagnostics, testing and digital pathology services for hospitals, GPs, and other NHS healthcare providers, as well as for other consumers across the UK.
We are looking for a Project Support Officer to join an expanding team in a fast paced and exciting transformation portfolio. You will be collaborating with multiple stakeholders across the transformation programme and with senior colleagues to support the delivery of complex programmes and projects with critical delivery timeframes. The role requires confident, competent, and experienced project professionals who are available immediately to join the team.
The Project Support Officer will primarily be responsible for providing project support functions to various projects within the portfolio whilst working with the Project Managers to ensure adherence to the PMO best practices and standards.
The role will require you to hit the ground running and be able to multitask, work under pressure and to tight timelines, be a self-starter using your initiative and best practice processes. The ideal candidate will have a flexible and adaptable approach, with excellent organisational and communication skills. You will have the ability to deliver and maintain standards in response to changing priorities and be calm under pressure accommodating changes as required. The postholder will thrive in a busy team environment and quickly assimilate the role requirements and implementing them.
The Project Support Officer is expected to add value to the PMO by acting a driving force and having a direct impact on the efficiency and overall success of the project. This role requires excellent communication, organisational skills, logical thinking and problem solving.
The Portfolio Project team work well together and support each other in the delivery of projects, working closely with colleagues across the organisation and the Trusts. We are currently operating as a hybrid working model with a mix of remote and site-based working depending on the needs of the individual projects.

The PMO supports the delivery of projects across the complex transformation programme by setting standards, processes, and facilitating sharing of resources, methodologies, tools, and techniques.
This role exists to support the management of Synnovis’ project portfolio by
- Monitoring progress against project plans; active management and reporting of cross-deliver dependencies, risks, and issues across the projects
- Assisting in regular performance and quality audit reporting
- Contributing to the ongoing development and promotion of the project standards within Synnovis.
Working for our organisation
From 1 April 2021, Synnovis became responsible for the day-to-day delivery of pathology services, which are at the core of the new partnership. Colleagues across SYNLAB, Synnovis and the NHS are working together to achieve the shared vision of developing an integrated, world-leading hub-and-spoke pathology network. The Service transformation is to be completed by 2024 and will see us build on the strengths and good practice within today’s Synnovis service.
The new partnership will improve ways of working for clinicians and scientists and will also deliver better value for money for the NHS.
As well as delivering pathology services and in line with the NHS’s own clinical vision and strategy, we will transform existing hospital-based laboratory and diagnostic services into an integrated hub and spoke pathology network.
Our state-of-the-art ‘hub’ laboratory will be at Friars Bridge Court, in Blackfriars Road, London, providing access to improved services and equipment for routine and specialist testing. On-site hospital laboratories will be essential services laboratories (the spokes), focusing on the rapid turnaround of urgent tests, such as those needed for A&E departments.

Education
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant experience
Experience
- Extensive experience of working in project environment and within a Project or PMO support role
- Experienced in maintaining project management artefacts and ensuring compliance with methodologies such as Prince 2 and Agile
- Experience of working with a wide range of stakeholders to form/gather information.
Skills
- An understanding of the project management lifecycle
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills

- Analytical approach to problem solving and can interpret and communicate complex information and data sets.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide high quality administrative and project support to the PMO Lead and PMO Officers
- Participate in relevant internal and external working groups/projects, services and initiatives to provide information, advice and support
- Drafting of reports, presentations, and documentation to illustrate project progress, deliverables and risks to enable decision making
- Support and input into the Governance and Reporting processes to track key activities, plans, budgets, issues, and risks
- Support the reporting to the portfolio, by collating various project data.
- Liaise with the Project Managers to track actuals vs. forecast across the projects to ensure they are in line with the approved CAPEX spending
- Assist in regular performance and quality audit reporting
- Review performance management data
- Contribute to the ongoing development of the project standards within Synnovis.
