Job overview
An opportunity has arisen for a Health Adviser within the Sexual Health team. This post is for 37.5 hours per week and will involve cross-site working at 2 clinics covering the East Sussex region.
Eligible candidates would need to be Registered Nurses or Midwives as this role incorporates direct patient care as well as telephone assessments. We are a small, friendly team who provide care for service users with a diverse range of sexual health needs across East Sussex. Health Advising is a challenging, but rewarding role which would suit a compassionate and dynamic individual. Excellent communication skills, record keeping and teamwork skills are essential to the role. The Health Advisers undertake screening, treatment of STIs, PrEP clinics, contact tracing, SXT and management of patients with high risk sexual activities.
Experience in Health Advising, Genitourinary medicine or related fields would be beneficial.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

Registered Nurse (1st level) or equivalent
ESSENTIAL PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE/ RELEVANT EXPERIENCE:

To have worked in a healthcare setting

To have used counselling/ counselling skills with patients either face to face or by telephone
-
To have a working knowledge of clinical and psychosocial aspects of Sexually Transmitted Infections, HIV or related sexual health issues

To have knowledge/ experience of sexual health education/ promotion with individuals and within a group setting

To have experiences of teaching and lecturing

Person specification
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered Nurse / RMN or other Registered Health Care Professional
- Evidence of continued professional development to diploma level or equivalent level of training and experience
- Commitment to personal development and to undertaking required training for the position
Desirable criteria
- Teaching / Assessing qualification e.g. ENB998 or comparable professional qualification in mentorship
- Clinical supervision training
- Educated to degree level
- Relevant post basic Sexual Health or Counselling / Health Adviser qualification or equivalent experience
Experience
Essential criteria
- Liaison across different health care agencies, including Primary care teams and community services.
- Working in multidisciplinary teams
- Experience of managing own case load
- Experience of health promotion
Desirable criteria
- Experience in working with young people or other high-risk groups
- Experience of child protection and working with under 18’s and Frazer guidelines
- Previous experience of working as a nurse in Sexual Health care/ GU medicine/ related field
Skills
Essential criteria
- Good knowledge of sexual health and HIV, including National Strategy and Health promotion
Desirable criteria
- Understanding of Microsoft teams and Attend Anywhere
