An Exciting opportunity has become available in the Breast Imaging department for a Specialist Radiographer / Mammographer to join our team. A training position will also be considered.
Our friendly and progressive Norwich Breast Unit is part of the QSI Accredited Imaging Department at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital and has a lot to offer an enthusiastic Mammographer. We aim to always be at the forefront of developments.
The department provides a full symptomatic and breast screening service, with symptomatic and assessments based in a state-of-the-art hospital, on the outskirts of the city. The department has 2 mammography rooms equipped with Full Field Digital (FFD) technology including Tomosynthesis and Contrast Enhanced Spectral Mammography CESM), and 3 ultrasound rooms. A designated FFD room for stereotactic guided biopsies able to produce 3D biopsy imaging including Contrast Enhanced Spectral Mammography Biopsies. A Faxitron machine allows for immediate core biopsy imaging at the time of biopsy.
A band 5 trainee opportunity is available for a Radiographer without the Mammography certificate, progressing to a band 6 on qualification (approx. 12 months).

Breast screening is based nearer to the city centre at the Norwich Community Hospital in a static unit accommodating 2 Mammography rooms. In addition, there is a static screening unit at the Cromer District Hospital. The screening unit also has 2 mobile screening vans that cover all of picturesque rural Norfolk including many seaside locations. All equipment is full field digital technology. We work at a pleasant pace so we can make the women’s experience as caring as possible.
It is essential that the candidates must hold a clean driving licence.
Mammography posts have a gendered protected character, due to the nature of the work. This is an occupational requirement and therefore only female applicants should apply.
To provide a professional, high quality mammographic imaging service. Working in both the symptomatic service and NHS Breast Screening Programme, producing mammograms of the highest standard. The post holder will practice for the majority of the time, unsupervised and often supervising Assistant practitioners, trainee Mammographers and trainee Mammography Associates.
Although full or part time posts are available full working days are a requirement.
Working hours are Monday to Friday 8:00 to 16:30 hrs. No weekend, or on-call shifts required. |

The following skills and experience will be required and are essential for the successful candidates:
- To contribute to the training of undergraduates, postgraduates, including medical staff, medical students and radiographic assistants applicable to their needs on a daily basis.
- Show evidence of Continued Professional Development. Fulfil mandatory training requirements, in-service and staff development training and take part in the annual appraisal system.
- Ensure a high standard of professionalism and patient care within their work area. This includes appropriate communication with patients providing reassurance and obtaining the patients confidence and co-operation to obtain the required diagnostic images.
- Comply with all relevant Trust policies and procedures.
- Report all incidents or accidents involving patients, visitors or staff and ensure complete accurate statements and reports are submitted.
- Liaise with the department leads regarding equipment maintenance and faults, ensuring that the correct documentation is completed.
- Promote awareness of and compliance with policies and protocols for the correct use of the radiology service.
- As part of the team contribute to the organisation of the day to day workload ensuring that delays to patients are kept to a minimum; assessing and prioritising according to clinical need.

Travelling to work
Staff parking is available onsite; however, this is limited during core working hours. We have more capacity in the evening and at weekends and can usually provide spaces during those hours.
We look to allocate these spaces fairly. Our Travel Office have a set of criteria that staff must meet in order to qualify. If you qualify for a space, you may be placed on a waiting list if we are at full capacity.
The NNUH is served by a number of public buses, and we offer generously discounted monthly passes with First Bus & Konect.
The Costessey Park and Ride runs regularly each day from 06:30 (from P&R) to 20:45 (from NNUH) and this service is free for NHS staff. There is a regular Thickthorn P&R service as well which is free. Applications to the Travel Office are required for this service. We also have a discounted service from the airport P&R if you purchase a bundle. Please see Konect website for further details.
The NNUH host multiple bicycle racks and a salary sacrifice scheme. We also benefit from a Beryl station onsite.
