Our mission
We are determined to create a more equal Islington, where everyone who lives here has an equal chance to thrive. To do this, everyone who works at Islington Council lives by a set of values which guide us in everything that we do: collaborative, ambitious, resourceful, and empowering. They spell out ‘CARE’, which is what we think public service is all about.
Trosolwg o'r swydd
We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated critical thinker to join our growing Evidence Islington team to support the council and partner organisations in strengthening policy-relevant research and evaluation.
Evidence Islington is a NIHR-funded Health Determinants Research Collaboration that aims to improve how local authorities gather, link and use evidence to inform decision-making and practice.
Advert
This new role will involve gathering, analysing, interpreting and presenting information from national, regional and local sources, specifically to inform decision making and strategy development, with a particular focus on wider determinants of health (e.g. housing, safety, employment, environment).
In order to strengthen research and evaluation across the council, Evidence Islington embedded researchers will be based within specific teams/departments that address different wider determinants. This role will involve leading studies themselves, as well as supporting, mentoring and advising other staff to develop and conduct evidence reviews, identify gaps, craft answerable evaluation questions, design, conduct, analyse, interpret and presenting findings. will also need to undertake primary data collection
We are looking for someone with substantial knowledge of quantitative and qualitative methods; experience conducting applied research, evaluation and primary data collection (i.e. surveys, interviews, focus group discussions, participatory methods); advising colleagues with less experience in these areas; experience with analysis software (e.g. NVivio, Stata); working in multi-disciplinary and cross-organisational teams; and strong communication skills.
Across the team, we are aiming for a mix of methodological specialisations (e.g. participatory mapping, economic evaluation, policy analysis), in addition to experience and training in core social science methods.
Following shortlisting, the selection process will involve an evaluation design task, a panel interview and review of a writing sample.
Gweithio i'n sefydliad
The Evidence Islington core team includes a public health consultant, programme manager, director of Healthwatch Islington, 2 university faculty members and specialists in qualitative and quantitative data collection, analysis and linkage.
We are curious, collaborative and committed to producing efficient, effective and timely evidence to inform policy and practice, and to meaningful engagement with residents and VCS organisations throughout our work.
