Our mission
We are determined to create a more equal Islington, where everyone who lives here has an equal chance to thrive. To do this, everyone who works at Islington Council lives by a set of values which guide us in everything that we do: collaborative, ambitious, resourceful, and empowering. They spell out ‘CARE’, which is what we think public service is all about.
Job overview
As part of our approach to Islington’s Community Wealth Building strategy, we aim to equip our residents with appropriate 'green skills' to enable them to take advantage of opportunities as we transition to a low-carbon economy.
This strategy focuses on a practical objective to support more Islington residents to have the skills to work with new “ green “ construction technologies and methods, and to be aware of energy saving measures. It is important to recognise that many of the green jobs and skills are not completely new, much of this work will involve existing skills being readjusted or upskilled in light of new technologies and increased environmental awareness.
The post will support the council to make best use of a new local classroom on the Holloway womens prison site, by identifying relevant courses and attracting training providers and residents to deliver/ attend classes in relevant skills.
We propose to base our strategy on the recommendations within the Central London Forward report on green jobs and skills which recommended a practical "mission-based" definition. This refers to green jobs that contribute to the achievement of Net Zero Carbon and broader environmental goals.
