An excellent opportunity has arisen to join a friendly, medium sized Oral & Maxillofacial surgery and Orthodontic department. The department provides all aspects of Oral Surgery including trauma and emergencies (8.30am – 5.00pm) between Mondays to Fridays (excluding Bank Holidays). There are no evening or weekend on-call commitments.
We pride ourselves on being able to provide excellent support from colleagues in associated specialties. The successful candidate will be expected to perform outpatient clinics as well as LA operating lists independently. They will also be expected to assist in a GA theatre setting with a view to an independent GA list if on the specialist register. The post would be suitable for experienced Specialist Oral Surgeons or experienced Specialty Doctors.

We offer treatment under LA, GA and anaesthetist led sedation if necessary. The candidate will cover clinics (08:30 – 17:00) and operating theatres (08:00 – 18:00) as well as ward cover if required. The post-holder will be encouraged to be involved in all departmental activities including postgraduate supervision (depending on experience), teaching and training sessions and the further development of appropriate departmental audits and outcome measures.
Associated Duties and Responsibilities:
Clinical duties within the Oral Surgery Department involve the outpatient and daycase surgery of patients at Blackpool Victoria Hospital. These duties involve all aspects of outpatient oral surgery including consultation clinics and demand driven sessions. The timetable includes commitments to surgical activity utilising local anaesthesia and general anaesthetic techniques.
It is expected that the post holder will give advice and assistance to members of the junior dental staff in training within the Department as the need arises and to participate in the clinical teaching of junior staff (depending on experience). Departmental administration and routine correspondence with referring dental and medical practitioners are required, for which secretarial support is available. Full participation in hospital/departmental Quality Assurance, Clinical Audit and Clinical Governance programmes is a requirement of the post.

Qualifications / training
Essential:
BDS or equivalent dental qualification recognised by the General Dental Council.
Full registration with GDC/GMC.
Applicants must have demonstrable skills in written and spoken English, adequate to enable effective communication about dental topics with patients and colleagues; as demonstrated by one of the following: Undergraduate dental training undertaken in English; or Academic International English Language Testing System (IELTS) results showing a score of at least 7.0 in each domain (speaking, listening, reading, writing), with an overall score of at least 7.5, to be achieved in a single sitting and within 24 months of the time of application If applicants believe they have adequate communication skills, but do not have evidence in one of the above forms, they must provide alternative supporting evidence of language skills
Desirable:
ISFE in Oral Surgery and ideally on specialist register for Oral Surgery or equivalent.
Experience
Essential:
Minimum 3 years oral surgery experience.
Demonstrates understanding of the principles of audit/clinical governance/quality improvement

Has evidence of experience in more than one dental specialty/clinical setting.
Has evidence of undertaking appropriate courses commensurate with career progression and intentions.
Evidence of relevant academic and research achievements, e.g., degrees, awards.
