Guy’s and St Thomas’ is among the UK’s busiest and most successful NHS foundation trusts. We provide a full range of hospital and community services for people in south London and as well as specialist care for patients from further afield including cancer, renal, orthopaedic, respiratory and cardiovascular services.
Guy’s is home to the largest dental school in Europe and a £160 million Cancer Centre opened in 2016. As part of our commitment to provide care closer to home, in 2017 we also opened a cancer centre and a kidney treatment centre at Queen Mary’s Hospital in Sidcup. Evelina London cares for local children in Lambeth and Southwark and provides specialist services across south east England including cardiac, renal and critical care services. We lead a number of specialist service networks aiming to ensure children are treated locally where possible, but have access to specialist expertise when they need it. Our community services include health visiting, school nursing and support for families of children with long-term conditions.
Our adult community services teams deliver care at the heart of the local communities we serve, working in partnership with GPs, local authorities and other healthcare and voluntary sector organisations. Working with our partners in Lambeth and Southwark, we are focusing on new ways of working to improve care for local patients.
In February 2021 the Royal Brompton and Harefield joined Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, bringing together world-leading expertise in the care and research of heart and lung disease. Our merger provides a once in a generation opportunity to build a lasting, world-renowned heart and lung centre, providing the highest quality care for patients and conducting world-leading research.

The Screening lead midwife will manage a small team which includes deputy screening midwife, infectious diseases midwife and maternity support worker/phlebotomist for Screening.
The post holder will lead support and coordinate the six antenatal and new born screening pathways across Womens services and Evelina Children’s Hospital ensuring that pathways are clear, up to date and implemented across the service.

1) Ensuring the provision of high-quality woman centred antenatal and new born screening service for the Trust, in, line with the National Screening Committee standards through the provision of clinical expertise, professional direction and leadership in the area of antenatal and newborn screening.
2) Monitoring the screening pathways, ensuring that all screens are completed within deadlines, and that failsafe processes are effective.
3) Identifying areas of improvement and leading on the implementation of improvement plans.
4) Working closely with the Midwifery Matron and Lead Midwife with screening responsibilities; other Senior midwives; staff at all levels in maternity, Evelina hospital and community services; fetal medicine unit staff and consultants; GUM services; sickle Cell & thalassaemia services; all screening laboratory staff.

Key Duties
Work in accordance with the NMC’s rules and code of conduct for midwives.
To be responsible for the provision of high quality, woman centred antenatal and newborn screening service for the Trust, in line with the national Screening Committee standards.
To act as a specialist in the field of antenatal and newborn screening, assisting and advising other health professionals in the management of the screening pathways.
To lead on the management of all Trust antenatal and newborn screening pathways, ensuring that they meet national standards and that new or updated standards are implemented as they are released by the NSCT.
To work with the multidisciplinary team to continually monitor the screening pathways, identify areas for improvement, and support staff in this process.
