This role will help support the councils commitment to apprenticeships.
In 2022 we made a commitment to supporting 1000 apprenticeships in the borough by 2026. This role will contribute to this by working closely with targeted employers, particularly from our Anchor Institutions network and local contractors, to support them to develop good apprenticeship offers that will address local skills gaps and support a more resilient local economy.

Act as the strategic lead in working with anchor institutions and l to strengthen the understanding of apprenticeships and work based learning as a strategy to address workforce challenges, and promote these as destinations for unemployed adults and school leavers, to increase the number of Islington residents who take up an apprenticeship and progress along a vocational pathway.
Develop innovative solutions to engage anchor employers to create new apprenticeship opportunities, through encouraging larger employers to work with their supply chains as well as look at their own workforce skills gaps and aging workforce risks focusing on SMEs and employers who do not traditionally offer apprenticeships particularly in high occupational growth sectors
Work strategically across sectors anchors and their contractors in the borough, engaging with employers, schools, youth providers, training providers to ensure that a consistent, high quality apprenticeship offer is developed that meets the needs of employers, responds to local labour market requirements and offers progression linked to the curriculum offered in Islington schools.
- Lead on the establishment and development of strong working relationships and clear partnerships with key employers to identify and generate pathways to employment.
- Oversee the design and brokerage of a range of opportunities for vulnerable people across key local opportunities , in particular pre apprenticeships taster activities, and apprenticeship opportunities.
- Work closely with employers and council colleagues to ensure that opportunities are appropriate, flexible and accessible, and designed to meet the needs of both employers and local residents .
- Ensure that iWork apprenticeships caseworker is supporting clients to identify the best next steps, and is supporting them through an effective preparation process, providing good quality feedback and support where unsuccessful, and in work support where successful .
- Where appropriate, broker bespoke opportunities based upon the individual needs of local growth sectors and anchor institution employers engaged in the programme.
- Work across the directorate and other council departments to develop a deeper understanding of the local labour market and training providers, , and identify opportunities for joint working with colleagues.
- Work with our sector leads, and ensure that all caseworkers are promoting apprenticeship opportunities as appropriate to clients through an effective preparation process, and that good quality feedback is available.
- Forecast upcoming opportunities and proactively develop innovative approaches to supporting employers to recruit better locally, through identifying alternative recruitment methods and advocating for the standards recommended by the Employment Commission.
- Ensure that both applicants and employers are properly supported, that health and safety measures and other considerations have been appropriately applied and support employers in preparing training/career plans. Provide good quality feedback and advocacy where appropriate
- Support with the writing of bids to bring external funding into the borough to develop the work of the team further
- Contribute to the monitoring and evaluation of the impact of interventions and the work of the service to ensure continuous improvements are made

- Understanding of the barriers faced by certain communities to employment in roles that involve personal care
- Willingness to work with flexibility to travel to areas and venues and support clients at flexible hours including some evenings and weekends to meet the needs of residents.
