Newcastle Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is one of the busiest and largest NHS foundation trusts in the country, with around 15,000 staff and an annual budget of £1.6 billion.
We have a long history of providing high quality care, clinical excellence, and innovation in medical research regionally, nationally and internationally.
We’re in the top five providers of specialised health services in the country, supporting people with a range of rare and complex medical, surgical and neurological conditions, cancers and genetic orders.
Our staff oversee around 6,500 patient contacts each day, delivering high standards of healthcare.
We are committed to promoting equality and diversity and recognise the benefit in providing an inclusive environment. We value and respect the diversity of our employees and aim to recruit a workforce which reflects the communities we serve, and is equipped to deliver the best service to our patients. We welcome all applications irrespective of people’s race, disability, sex, sexual orientation, religion or belief, age, gender identity, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity and in particular those from under- represented groups.
Newcastle Hospitals are proud to be one of the exemplar organisations across the NHS on sustainability, with a long history of delivering Sustainable Healthcare in Newcastle (Shine) and the first healthcare organisation in the world to declare a climate emergency. Our strategy includes commitments to being Net Zero by 2030, for our direct carbon footprint, and Net Zero by 2040 for our footprint plus. Delivering these ambitions will not be possible without the help, support and action of every single member of our team.

A rare opportunity has arisen, for a highly motivated Pharmacist to work at an advanced level, in a regional centre for malignant haematology and bone marrow transplantation.
As part of a significant investment in pharmacist resource, we are looking to further expand our well-established clinical pharmacy team, providing a comprehensive and high quality clinical pharmacy service across the Trust's Adult Haematology services at the Northern Centre for Cancer Care (NCCC)
The NCCC building opened at the Freeman Hospital site in 2010 and provides systemic anti-cancer therapies (SACT) and bone marrow transplant services to adult oncology and haematology patients, as well as radiotherapy for both adults and paediatrics. The centre houses three inpatient wards dedicated to treating cancer patients, a busy SACT day unit, associated supportive therapies, as well as an ambulatory care unit.
- Interview date: 20th February 2024

- The Trust strives to be at the forefront of anti-cancer treatments, and this has recently been demonstrated by our selection as one of only three centres in England to offer CAR-T therapy to both adult and paediatric patients. We also have well established full electronic prescribing for all medications, (inpatient, outpatient and anti-cancer) as well as being one of the first "paperlite" Trusts, meaning that we have all patient documentation recorded in electronic format, including inpatient notes.
- An important aspect of this new role will be non-medical prescribing activity, for identified, haematology specific, patient groups. There will be great opportunities to become an integral part of disease specific teams, working closely with consultant haematologists, SpR's, clinical nurse specialists and others.
- We require a driven and enthusiastic pharmacist, who is registered with the GPhC, with significant post-qualification experience, to become a valued member of our team. Experience in malignant haematology is essential, as well as having a broad range of exposure to hospital based pharmacy practice. Applicants should be qualified non-medical prescribers, registered as such with the GPhC, or should be in a position to achieve this qualification within the next three months.
