Job overview
This is an exciting opportunity to work within Health and Justice Services as a Practice Development Practitioner - The post is full time, fixed term for 12 months, but may become permanent if continued funding becomes available.
You will be working across the Health and Justice service; base is flexible and will be agreed based on where the successful applicant lives within the Health and Justice footprint.
We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic experienced clinician to support improvement in the lives of people with mental ill health / learning disabilities through effective clinical leadership and the development of staff to support the delivery of excellent services to promote recovery and wellbeing for all service users. You will be responsible for ensuring that services provide a progressive learning and development environment for all grades of staff including temporary staff.
You will be expected to implement key practice developments and quality initiatives in order to achieve excellence in patient care in partnership with nursing and clinical multi-disciplinary teams. You will also be responsible for your own personal and professional development whilst undertaking this role and at times representing their head of nursing or professional lead as required.
You will mainly work Monday - Friday 9.00am - 5.00pm but will need to be flexible to work outside these hours where there is a specific practice development need.

- To act as an expert practitioner and effective role model for best practice incorporating clinical teaching, audit and governance.
- To ensure that own practice demonstrates up-to-date expert clinical knowledge.
- Responsible for the development of ward teams in conjunction with Senior Leadership teams within the designated area, ensuring development and implementation of evidence based clinical practice within a therapeutic clinical environment, to ensure a recovery focused, safe and effective service user experience.
- To work effectively as part of the multi-professional, inter-disciplinary team, encouraging and supporting other health care professionals in the promotion and maintenance of an effective learning environment and practice development
- To empower teams to undertake a range of practices relevant to their
competency level and support development of staff to achieve appropriate competency requirements. - To provide a visible, accessible, reassuring and authoritative presence in clinical areas to whom staff, service users, carers and families can turn for assistance, advice and support.
- To develop and deliver training as required within the service area for patients and carers at different levels according to need and across disciplines.
- Co-ordinates attendance at vocational training across their sites in response to Trust initiatives and requirements, jointly with operational managers.

Trust Welcome Day

Essential criteria
- Current professional registration with professional body
- Professional knowledge acquired through degree/diploma supplemented by specialist training or equivalent experience to master’s level equivalent
- Recognised clinical teaching qualification or equivalent clinical mentoring and teaching experience
- Leadership qualification or willingness to work towards. Qualification must be achieved within agreed timescale
- Quality Improvement Systems for Leaders or willing to undertake within agreed timescale

- Key skills in literacy, numeracy and ITQ level 2 (or equivalent)

- Extensive experience working with people with complex mental ill health or learning disabilities in an inpatient or community environment
