Main Responsibilities and Duties

The principal duty of this post is to provide a comprehensive clinical service to patients.

1. To, at all times, comply with the GMC’s guidance on ‘Good Medical Practice’ as amended or substituted from time to time.

2. To ensure that patient confidentiality is maintained at all times.

3. To undertake duties as defined within the attached job plan in so far as practicable and in agreement with your Clinical Director.

4. To be responsible and managerially accountable for the reasonable and effective use of Trust resources that you use and influence, and professionally accountable to the Medical Director.

5. On commencement to ensure personal attendance at the Trust’s corporate Induction (or arranged Consultant Induction).

6. To participate in the Trust’s Statutory & Mandatory training programme.

7. To be responsible for the clinical management of out-patients under your care.

Clinical Duties:

8. The post holder will deliver community paediatric clinics including neurodevelopmental clinics and multidisciplinary clinics for those with cerebral palsy. The clinics will mainly be held at Epsom General Hospital within the children’s outpatient department but the post holder could be required to work at other sites if required.

Specific Duties of this post:

9. Specifically, the role will include:

· Neurodevelopmental paediatric clinics including assessment, diagnosis and management of those with developmental delay, ASD, ADHD and DCD;

· Neurodisability clinics including multidisciplinary clinics for those with cerebral palsy;

· Educational paediatrics including preparing medical advice for EHCP assessments;

Teaching, Training, and Research:

10. As an organisation we are committed to develop our staff and services. We work on improving services in a collaborative manner with the local authorities, in ways that best suit the needs of our patients.

11. There will be ample opportunities to participate in departmental teaching and supporting the development of middle grade trainees. Participation in Peer Review, service improvement and other clinical governance work is encouraged.

12. The post-holder will have access to training opportunities and support as part of their appraisal, re-validation and development plan.

13. Audit and research are encouraged and facilitated through the Audit and the R&D departments which are well established.

Teaching

14. We are an active teaching centre with regular attachments of students from St George’s Hospital Medical School and international students. We are responsible for the post-

graduate training of Specialist Trainees in Paediatrics at all levels. Additionally, FY2, and GP trainees rotate through the department.

Management & Governance

15. To be responsible for the management, appraisal and discipline of junior doctors who are attached to you, after taking appropriate advice.

16. To provide advice, as required to the Executive and Trust board, General Practitioners and other interested parties, on the provision of planning of clinical services locally, regionally and nationally in keeping with confidentiality agreements relating to Trust business.

17. To co-operate in the present framework agreement of management arrangements.

18. To fully participate in Clinical Governance arrangements across the Trust including participation in clinical audit, research (where appropriate), pursuing an agreed agenda with colleagues and the Trust Board and fully co-operating in implementing the results in order to achieve best practice.

19. To participate, on at least an annual basis in consultant appraisal and job planning reviews in line with revalidation requirements

20. To comply with Trust policies and procedures where appropriate including Statutory and Mandatory training

21. To ensure that all intellectual property rights of the Trust are observed.

Clinical Governance

22. Medical Practice: The post-holder is expected to maintain personal and professional development. They will be expected to register with their respective Royal College for the purpose of CME/CPD and to fulfil the requirements of that registration.

23. Clinical Audit: Audit and research are encouraged and facilitated through the Audit and the R&D departments which are well established.

24. Appraisal/Revalidation: The post holder is expected to participate, on at least an annual basis in consultant appraisal and job planning reviews in line with revalidation requirements.
