Evelina London cares for local children in Lambeth and Southwark and provides specialist services across south east England including cardiac, renal and critical care services. We lead a number of specialist service networks aiming to ensure children are treated locally where possible, but have access to specialist expertise when they need it. Our community services include health visiting, school nursing and support for families of children with long-term conditions.
Our adult community services teams deliver care at the heart of the local communities we serve, working in partnership with GPs, local authorities and other healthcare and voluntary sector organisations. Working with our partners in Lambeth and Southwark, we are focusing on new ways of working to improve care for local patients.
In February 2021 the Royal Brompton and Harefield joined Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, bringing together world-leading expertise in the care and research of heart and lung disease. Band 3 Senior Nursing Assistant: AAW (Acute Admissions Ward)
The Acute Admissions Ward (AAW) is part of the emergency pathway at St Thomas’ Hospital and is located on the ground floor next to A&E. We are a 56 bedded medical admissions ward and we take our patients primarily from ED (Emergency Department).
We are seeking highly motivated, experienced band 3 Senior Nursing Assistants to join our skilled and friendly team. Our patients are admitted with a wide variety of different medical issues including cardiac, respiratory, oncology, haematology, endocrine, psychiatry neurology and they often arrive with us in an acute phase of their illness.
The Acute Admissions Ward is a busy, dynamic environment and is often fast paced with a high turnover patients. You must be a hard working, highly motivated individual with excellent communication skills and be a role model for patient safety and high quality, compassionate care who demonstrates the trust values and behaviours on a daily basis.
You must have extensive experience of working on the Acute Admissions Ward, be willing to work full time hours including nights, weekends and bank holidays and have or be actively working towards the care certificate or equivalent.

Main duties of the job
To work supervised under qualified staff and to provide support in the delivery of quality care for patients and to carry out that work in a professional and compassionate way.
To be a lead and role model on the ward for junior staff to aspire to especially in the areas of fundamental care, a clean, tidy and safe environment, Infection, prevention and control and professional communication.
To provide a full range of support functions on the support including helping to keep the ward safe and clean, undertaking observations and other procedures such as ECGs, height and weight etc, helping with targets such as patient satisfaction surveys.
to undertake the Buddy role so that you can support new band 2 Nursing assistants in their role and to take an active part in inductions and supporting of more junior nursing assistants and student nurses.
to undertake venepuncture and cannulation to support this role on the ward.
to help senior staff on the ward meet their objectives on the ward such as helping with audit and supporting in a link role on the ward.
This will include undertaking personal care duties for patients, clerical duties and reporting patient conditions to qualified staff.
Ensuring the safety and well being of services users, and always working in a manner that promotes dignity and human rights through the adoption of person centred care principles.
