Guy’s is home to the largest dental school in Europe and a £160 million Cancer Centre opened in 2016. As part of our commitment to provide care closer to home, in 2017 we also opened a cancer centre and a kidney treatment centre at Queen Mary’s Hospital in Sidcup. St Thomas’ has one of the largest critical care units in the UK and one of the busiest emergency departments in London. It is also home to Evelina London Children’s Hospital.
Evelina London cares for local children in Lambeth and Southwark and provides specialist services across south east England including cardiac, renal and critical care services. We lead a number of specialist service networks aiming to ensure children are treated locally where possible, but have access to specialist expertise when they need it. Our community services include health visiting, school nursing and support for families of children with long-term conditions.
Our adult community services teams deliver care at the heart of the local communities we serve, working in partnership with GPs, local authorities and other healthcare and voluntary sector organisations. Working with our partners in Lambeth and Southwark, we are focusing on new ways of working to improve care for local patients.

An exciting opportunity has arisen within inpatient diabetes for an 8a fixed term 1 year at 0.7 WTE with the aim of initiating an educational programme across King’s College Hospital (KCH) and Guy’s and St Thomas’ (GSTT) that would improve inpatient patient safety and increase diabetes knowledge across many health care disciplines This role will sit across both GSTT and KCH and involve working with teams on all sites across the 2 trusts. This post would suit an AHP/nurse who has extensive clinical experience in working with patients with diabetes in an inpatient setting as well as skills in project management and strategic planning.

Ensure evidence-based practice is embedded in the practice of all staff and oversee the implementation of relevant national/local guidance and standards.
To identify training development needs of staff within the area in accordance with local and national policies.
Responsible for development, co-ordination of training programmes for staff in conjunction with Training and Development department.
Work autonomously across professional, organisational and system boundaries and proactively develop and sustain new partnerships and networks to influence and improve health, outcomes and healthcare delivery systems
To provide a consultancy/clinical leadership function as required and demonstrate a wide range of advanced clinical knowledge/ experience.
Facilitate change management and quality improvement initiatives to achieve best practice in services across KCH & GSTT. Coordinate, lead and manage time and activities across the two trusts.
Work in close partnership with the appropriate Clinical Leads, Service Managers to ensure all local, corporate, national initiatives and targets are met.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The main role of the post holder is to initiate an educational programme across King’s College Hospital (KCH) and Guy’s and St Thomas’ (GSTT) that would improve inpatient patient safety and increase diabetes knowledge across many health care disciplines. Skills in strategic planning and project management is essential for this position and would encourage application from individuals who can demonstrate previous leadership experience at a senior level or have been involved in a national project related to diabetes care. Diabetes experience in the inpatient setting is essential for this role.
The post holder is expected to work closely with two multi-disciplinary inpatient teams across KCH and GSTT. They will provide strong professional leadership and play a key role in service transformation alongside the diabetes inpatient teams, nurse leads/nurse consultant.
The post holder will require a flexible approach to management structure and develop key relationships with the stakeholders and those who fund education for colleagues working across the inpatient setting. They will be expected to conduct a learning needs assessment across all sites, including an in-depth review of existing diabetes education resources and complete a skills gap analysis which can be shared and discussed with the diabetes inpatient teams and clinical leads supporting this post.
The post holder will be expected to develop a bespoke strategy, to embed a proactive approach to inpatient diabetes education across GSTT & KCH, supporting both sites to become advanced providers of diabetes inpatient training which is sustainable for future education and commercially viable for King’s Health Partners/GSTT/KCH.
To be responsible for developing and co-ordinating education initiatives across the two trusts and set measurable objectives which include development and delivery of bespoke inpatient diabetes resources targeted at a range of staff groups, including production of educational videos, webinars, and online content. Review of existing inpatient diabetes referral pathway process following the implementation of EPIC. Produce a proposal, supported by clinical incident data, stating the need for mandatory diabetes training for all clinical staff across GSTT & KCH.
