Job overview
Due to the current post holder receiving a promotion, an exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced midwife with a passion for governance and risk management to join the Women’s Health Safety Team at University College Hospital Foundation Trust as Clinical Governance Midwife on a permanent basis.
As Clinical Governance Midwife, you will support the Risk Management Midwife to hold responsibility for the day-to-day oversight of all clinical risk management activity within predominantly maternity, but also supporting neonatal, breast and gynaecology. To do this you will work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team within the Women’s Health Division, drawing on your excellent communication and interpersonal skills which are essential to role.

You will support the Risk Management Midwife on key projects such as the Clinical Negligence Scheme for Trusts and be the Trust point of contact for a range of external bodies including; MBRRACE, PMRT, NHS Resolution, RCOG Each Baby Counts, Healthcare Safety Investigation Branch, UK Obstetric Surveillance System. This role will also include embedding the new Patient Safety Incident Response Framework within the governance structures in Women’s Health.
Throughout your governance duties, you will remain mindful of human factors and will share learning from incidents, supporting the Safety Culture and remain up to date with staff and patient experience and engagement with the SI process.

Knowledge and Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered midwife on part 10 of NMC register
- Specialist clinical governance and risk management knowledge acquired through training (recognised training programme) or experience (attendance and involvement in governance activity)
- Evidence of study at masters level or equivalent experience
- Evidence of ongoing professional training/development
- ENB 997 or other teaching qualification Mentor Preparation or equivalent
Desirable criteria
- Recognised leadership / leadership training
Experience
Essential criteria
- Demonstrate significant experience of clinical midwifery practice, with ward management experience
- Experience in clinical audit
- Experience in planning and coordination, e.g. project management
- Experience in database management
- Knowledge of CQC and NHS resolution and general standard audit requirements
- Experience in staff orientation and induction.
Desirable criteria
- Knowledgeable in clinical audit and research methodology
- Experience in a range of audit and research tools
- Knowledge of current NHS trends in clinical audit – especially relating to maternity services
- Experience in developing maternity guidelines
