Guy’s and St Thomas’ is among the UK’s busiest and most successful NHS foundation trusts. We provide a full range of hospital and community services for people in south London and as well as specialist care for patients from further afield including cancer, renal, orthopaedic, respiratory and cardiovascular services.
Guy’s is home to the largest dental school in Europe and a £160 million Cancer Centre opened in 2016. As part of our commitment to provide care closer to home, in 2017 we also opened a cancer centre and a kidney treatment centre at Queen Mary’s Hospital in Sidcup. St Thomas’ has one of the largest critical care units in the UK and one of the busiest emergency departments in London. It is also home to Evelina London Children’s Hospital.
Evelina London cares for local children in Lambeth and Southwark and provides specialist services across south east England including cardiac, renal and critical care services. We lead a number of specialist service networks aiming to ensure children are treated locally where possible, but have access to specialist expertise when they need it. Our community services include health visiting, school nursing and support for families of children with long-term conditions.
Our adult community services teams deliver care at the heart of the local communities we serve, working in partnership with GPs, local authorities and other healthcare and voluntary sector organisations. Working with our partners in Lambeth and Southwark, we are focusing on new ways of working to improve care for local patients.
In February 2021 the Royal Brompton and Harefield joined Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, bringing together world-leading expertise in the care and research of heart and lung disease. Our merger provides a once in a generation opportunity to build a lasting, world-renowned heart and lung centre, providing the highest quality care for patients and conducting world-leading research.

Would you like to take on a new and exciting role created to train and develop the next generation of echocardiographers?
We are pleased to join forces with the National School of Healthcare Science and Health Education England to support the Echocardiography Training Programme (ETP). This is a full-time, 18-month training post designed to support the successful candidate towards level 2 BSE (British Society of Echocardiography) accreditation. On completion of the programme you will be awarded a post graduate certificate in Clinical Echocardiography.
We are seeking for passionate individual who are willing to take the challenge to be trained in Echocardiography. This position would be suitable for PTP (Practitioner Training Programme) or relevant scientific subject or equivalent experience and appropriate underpinning knowledge and skills in Cardiology.

The Trainee Echocardiographer will be employed for a fixed term of 18 months during which time they will work through a programme of learning.
In conjunction with and supported by the Designated Training Officer, the Trainee Echocardiographer will be responsible for their own progression through the training programme, completing a mixture of work based competence and experience in NHS scientific departments, completing the learning outcomes as outlined in the Curriculum Library, undertaking the
complementary academic Post Graduate Certificate in Clinical Echocardiography and preparing for and completing the BSE Transthoracic Accreditation process. The post holder will be expected to undertake a range of scientific and clinical functions initially under supervision. A major part of the training and development will take place within Guy’s and St
Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust and is integrally linked to the knowledge and applied learning that forms part of the nationally recognised BSE accreditation programme. Post holders will also be
expected to undertake mandatory training as required.
