Hywel Dda University Health Board is seeking to recruit a Deputy Director of Allied Health Professions.
In conjunction with the Executive Director of Therapies and Health Science, the Deputy Director of Allied Health Professions will have professional accountability for the Allied Health Professional (AHP) workforce and will be responsible for setting the strategic direction for AHPs and AHP support workers across the Health Board.
This is a corporate professional role and a key member of the Health Board’s corporate, operational and clinical structures, representing the voice and contribution of the AHP workforce across the Health Board, locally, regionally and nationally.

The successful candidate will provide visible and accessible professional and clinical leadership at corporate and operational levels, providing strategic advice, support and drive innovation across the AHP workforce. They will inspire, motivate and empower the AHP workforce to further develop delivery of safe, timely, effective person-centred, equitable and efficient services.
They will be a change agent within the Health Board, translating national strategy into operational delivery, ensuring the AHP workforce contribute to strategic initiatives, promote a culture of learning, and strive for continuous quality improvement with other members of the multi-professional team.
They must have extensive experience working at a strategic level, across a range of services and overseeing complex service change.
They will be a compassionate and inclusive leader, working with other senior leaders (clinical and non-clinical) across the Health Board, and ensure a multi-professional approach to achieving our strategic ambitions whilst demonstrating alignment with the health boards values and behaviours.

Hywel Dda University Health Board is the planner and provider of NHS healthcare services for people in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire and its bordering counties. Our 13,000 members of staff provide primary, community, in-hospital, mental health and learning disabilities services for around 399,000 people across a quarter of the landmass of Wales. We do this in partnership with our three local authorities and public, private and third sector colleagues, including our volunteers, through:
Four main hospitals: Bronglais General in Aberystwyth, Glangwili General in Carmarthen, Prince Philip in Llanelli and Withybush General in Haverfordwest;
Seven community hospitals: Amman Valley and Llandovery in Carmarthenshire; Tregaron, Aberaeron and Cardigan in Ceredigion; and Tenby and South Pembrokeshire Hospital Health and Social Care Resource Centre in Pembrokeshire;
48 general practices (five of which are managed practices), 47 dental practices (including three orthodontic), 99 community pharmacies, 44 general ophthalmic practices (43 providing Eye Health Examination Wales and 34 low vision services) and 17 domiciliary only providers and 11 health centres;
Numerous locations providing mental health and learning disabilities services;
Highly specialised and tertiary services commissioned by the Welsh Health Specialised Services Committee, a joint committee representing seven health boards across Wales.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Provide strategic influence and professional leadership, ensuring the effective deployment of allied health resources to deliver safe, effective, well-led, responsive and caring service delivery, working collaboratively with all professional leads.
Embed a culture where service users, carers and family involvement are integral to service design, delivery and improvement.
Provide a visible, accessible and professional presence at clinical and corporate levels, delivering advice, support, innovation and professional leadership, inspiring, motivating and empowering AHPs and AHP support workers to deliver effective person-centred services.
Influence and contribute to organisational service delivery, standards and activity, encouraging multidisciplinary working, collaborative working with other stakeholders and co-production with service users, carers and families.
Ensure AHP contribution to the delivery of organisational initiative and developments that strive for continuous service improvement, meeting service users and commissioned requirements, within agreed resources.
Ensure services are delivered in line with regional and national initiatives, monitoring progress against key performance indicators.
Contribute an AHP perspective, knowledge, and skills at Board sub committees, ensuring the Health Board is appraised with AHP practice and service delivery.
Lead the delivery of high quality care, ensuring AHPs have maximum impact on patient experience and outcomes for the local population.
Lead the analysis, design, implementation and evaluation of AHP service provision through role redesign and new funding that meets stakeholder requirements.
Assessment day to include interview and stakeholder sessions (in person) will be held on 24th April 2024.
