We are looking for a self-motivated pharmacy technician to join our friendly mental health Digital pharmacy team primarily based at Trust Headquarters in Ashton-Under-Lyne.
- To act as a key member of the digital team currently implementing Electronic Prescribing and Medicines Administration (EPMA)
- To co-ordinate and plan the implementation, go-live and post go-live EMPA project activities, working alongside the project clinical team including the EPMA Lead Pharmacist and EPMA Lead Nurse
• To resolve problems with the EPMA system and ensure the system is set-up accurately,
and safely
• To be a specialist EPMA clinical champion and an advocate for the EPMA project across
the Trust
• To deliver a training programme for EPMA using specialist knowledge
• To participate in audit work relating to EPMA and collate data to support the monitoring of
performance targets in respect of the project
• To develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) relating to EPMA and suggest changes to any Trust policies impacted on by the implementation and use of EPMA
The individual must be a good communicator, accurate, enthusiastic, flexible, and able to use their own initiative and work as part of a busy team.
All applicants must have a recognised Pharmacy technician qualification, NVQ level 3, BTEC, City & Guilds or equivalent experience, must be an accredited accuracy checker and registered with the GPhC.

The pharmacy team is a purely clinical team based at sites across the whole of the Pennine Care footprint. The team includes pharmacists and technicians embedded in all services such in-patients, community teams and home treatment teams and leads for specialist areas such as CAMHS . The pharmacy team also incudes a medicines information service, research and innovation and Digital pharmacy team.
As a member of the team you will be encouraged to develop the service and yourself e.g. College of Mental Health Pharmacy credentialing and have opportunity for further education and research. You will be provided with regular supervision and CPD opportunities and will in turn support the development of the pharmacy service. In your lead role you will be a key member of the Pharmacy Leadership Team.

To act as the first point of contact for clinical staff requesting advice on the specialist and
practical aspects of the implementation of EPMA at ward level. This will include:
• Supporting the EPMA Pharmacist Lead in liaising with the software supplier, Health Informatics department and pharmacy team in relation to all aspects of the deployment and management of the selected system
• Being a specialist for EPMA across the Trust, being a key point of contact during implementation, go-live and post go-live at mental health sites including inpatients and community services
• Being a specialist on the selected system, liaising with the supplier on functionality, upgrades and issue management
• Contributing to the planning and implementation of the project and subsequent upgrades,
ensuring all functions are tested before go-live, and advising the pharmacy lead on the
potential impact to staff.
• Building and maintaining a highly accurate Drug Catalogue, updating on a monthly basis
according to monthly data releases from NHSI and reflecting the GMMMG formulary and
local supplying organisations’ stock lists
• Building extensive lists of medicine sets and order sentences and assist in checking for
integrity, ease of use, and safety
• Assessing and building the Clinical Decision Support capabilities in conjunction with the
EPMA Lead pharmacist
• Supporting the EPMA system administration for end users in conjunction with the
Registration Authority team
• Providing input and feedback on the collection and recording of medication error data
relating to the use of EPMA
• Measuring and monitoring EPMA cash and non-cash releasing benefits at ward and user
level
• Maintaining the EPMA system including configuration and upgrades, raising any risks or
issues to the EPMA Pharmacist Lead
• Providing support to the service desk on system-related queries
• Acting as a role model and mentor for pharmacy staff, and support the personal and
professional development of team members, and in particular advising all grades in the
EPMA area of knowledge
• Being involved in the business change workshops, acting as a champion for change and
a super-user to floor walk during go-live
• Responding to comment and complaint around the EPMA system, resolving complex problems and dealing with unanticipated issues within sphere od competence
• Monitoring and reporting to EPMA Pharmacist Lead any problems at ward level, highlighting also any conflict in adherence to medicines management policies and procedures
• Liaising with the staff of the Acute Trust pharmacy departments and other third parties providing medication supplies to assess the feasibility of streamlining the ordering process between the organisations, working towards ‘closed loop’ medicines process where possible
• Highlighting risks and issues via the established process, providing input into the severity rating by assessing functional and safety impacts and where accuracy is important
Information Resources
• Report and provide updates to the pharmacy team, including technicians, about the project along with the EPMA lead.
• Develop and introduce documentation including user guides, communication leaflets, and regular updates for staff across the Trust
• Assist EPMA Lead Pharmacist in producing the benefits tracker and regular reports to NHSI relating to medicines using accredited tools
• Provide regular status reports on progress to the EPMA Project Manager
• Deliver and support the delivery of presentations on the EPMA project as required to relevant meetings and committees
• Be competent in using Word, Excel PowerPoint to prepare reports and presentations as well as Rx Info Define and Refine in parallel to EPMA
Training
• Deliver specialist EPMA training of end-users, providing input on course content and providing updates to the training material as the system set-up evolves and upgrades are
provided by the supplier
• Deliver ongoing specialist training to end users including nurses, doctors, Non-Medical Prescribers and Advanced Practitioners when required post go-live
• Act as the lead for the specific training of relevant staff on the reporting capabilities of EPMA, Business Intelligence reports, and the use of Rx Info Define/ Refine in conjunction with the EPMA Pharmacist Lead.
• Attend the supplier ‘Train the Trainer’ presentations as well as training sessions provided as part of the Supplier User Groups
• Plan, deliver and evaluate EPMA related training as part of the pharmacy team , as required
Communication
• Provide appropriate written and verbal information to support clinical and technical aspects of the EPMA role
• Communicate information accurately
• To be competent in using Word, Excel, PowerPoint and to prepare reports and presentations
Clinical
• To maintain competence in technician led medicines reconciliation
• To maintain accreditation as technician checker providing final checks in the dispensing process
Financial
• Monitor prescribing costs, at a high level identifying trends and outlying expenditure at wards and Trust level, raising anomalies with relevant pharmacy staff
• Monitor cost-effective us of medication via EPMA, ensuring the formulary is set up to direct prescribers to cost-effective formulations of medications where applicable
• Provide analysis of reports from EPMA, Rx Info Define/ Refine and Tableau to assess
patient level reporting of medicines expenditure if/where feasible.
• Participate in audits relating to medicines management which require input from EPMA data, and provide guides to other audit staff on use of the medicines related data from EPMA
• Participate in any research relating the medicines management where EPMA data is required both at Trust level and nationwide, as part of the NHSI EPMA research project
• Liaise with other mental health trusts to benchmark data and share audit and research plans where applicable, via user groups or other EPMA forums
