The Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust provides a full range of acute clinical services for a catchment area of up over 1 million people. Our patients are referred to us by around 100 local GP surgeries and other acute hospitals and primary care Trusts around the country. We are involved in the teaching and training of a wide range of health professionals, in partnership with the University of East Anglia and other local education providers.

Would you like the chance to take on a crucial role within an award winning, SEQOHS accredited occupational health team within the Workplace Health and Wellbeing department at the Norfolk & Norwich Hospital?
Our friendly team are all dedicated in the provision of a safe, high quality, efficient and supportive occupational health service across several NHS trusts within the region as well as the public sector, academic and other organisations.
We are looking to enhance our team further by appointing a B6 Adviser with specialist mental Health training/knowledge & experience, combining this with Occupational Health principles to assess an individual’s health capability to perform a particular job role at the pre-placement stage and during employment.
The successful applicant will join our growing clinical team at Rouen Road in Norwich City Centre and will support the Occupational Health Nursing team. You must have current registration with a professional body and a strong background in dealing with mental health case management and assessments.
You will be an integral part of and be supported by our Occupational Health Clinical team, providing you with mentoring and coaching and opportunities for continuing professional development, training within the occupational health specialty.
The role will form part of our multi-disciplinary team and offer a variety of work experiences and work environments within both NHS and non-NHS customers.

The successful candidate will undertake a broad and varied range of activities including mental health management referrals and case management as required, pre-placement assessments and providing telephone advice where the main focus is mental health whilst supporting the duty nurse role, some line management responsibility and staff training, ensuring the vitally important delivery of OH services to both NHS and non-NHS customers. As such, the post offers a wide variety of different experiences and work environments.
You will also contribute to the development and review of occupational health procedures and the regular auditing of clinical activity within the department.
Due to requirements of various contracts, there is a very occasional requirement to work evenings, nights, and occasional weekends in order to meet client commitments. These are rotated within the team.

- To identify Occupational Health needs and work in partnership with the client to establish a service, which is specifically developed for the organisation in line with current legislation and best practice.
- To record accurate and confidential occupational health information into staff records following all appointments and communication with the department. To update computerised records as required.
- To use specialist mental health knowledge alongside Occupational Health principles , experience, and practice to assess an individual’s health capability to perform a particular job role at the pre-placement stage and during employment taking into account any relevant legislation such as the Equality Act. To request additional medical information from specialists and GPs where indicated. To inform managers of the findings within the defined department timescales and in line with confidentiality and consent requirements.
- To provide advice and inform managers of relevant adaptations and equipment required to maintain health and wellbeing at work.
- Using the agreed Occupational Health procedures and guidance to undertake a risk assessment for staff who have sustained a blood or body fluid exposure incident and to advise on any appropriate course of treatment including the need for Post Exposure Prophylaxis. To inform staff of the source/recipient blood results and any implications to working practice.
- To undertake ergonomic health risk assessments, to provide a written report and advise managers of the appropriate recommendations and relevant equipment required by the individual to perform their job without risk to their health and well-being. To advise on more complex cases as required.
- To support the role of the telephone Duty Nurse Adviser. To provide telephone advice to all contracted clients on any Occupational Health concern, where the main focus is mental health, which may include pre-placement health issues, health capability to work, infection control and blood and body fluid exposure incidents. To advise on more complex issues as required.
- To identify clients that require a phased return to work and liaise with management and primary care services in implementing specific programmes for an individual returning to work following a period of sickness absence. To formally advise managers on any work restrictions and adaptations that need to be considered and the approximate length of the phased return. To ensure the manager and client are supported through this process.
- To work with the client to identify any occupational mental health training needs, to develop and present training programmes which reflect a professional and quality service at all times.
- To assess and refer clients to the relevant counselling services and fast track physiotherapy assessment services. Where necessary to liaise with relevant health professionals and external health promotion agencies to support and advise the client on potential solutions to improve their health. To advise on mental health complex cases as required.

Travelling to work
Staff parking is available onsite; however, this is limited during core working hours. We have more capacity in the evening and at weekends and can usually provide spaces during those hours.
We look to allocate these spaces fairly. Our Travel Office have a set of criteria that staff must meet in order to qualify. If you qualify for a space, you may be placed on a waiting list if we are at full capacity.
The NNUH is served by a number of public buses, and we offer generously discounted monthly passes with First Bus & Konect.
The Costessey Park and Ride runs regularly each day from 06:30 (from P&R) to 20:45 (from NNUH) and this service is free for NHS staff. There is a regular Thickthorn P&R service as well which is free. Applications to the Travel Office are required for this service. We also have a discounted service from the airport P&R if you purchase a bundle. Please see Konect website for further details.
The NNUH host multiple bicycle racks and a salary sacrifice scheme. We also benefit from a Beryl station onsite.
