Job overview
We are currently advertising an internal secondment opportunity for a 1 year fixed-term part-time Open Dialogue Lived Experience Project Development Officer.
Please note: only candidates who have worked as peer workers (or very similar lived experience-specific roles), have completed Open Dialogue foundation training (or equivalent) and have their own lived experience of recovery from mental health difficulties and experience of using secondary mental health services will be eligible for shortlisting.
Advert
The role will work as part of the Westminster Peer-Supported Open Dialogue Team and Trustwide Lived Experience Workforce to support the development and pilot delivery of CNWL’s Peer-Supported Open Dialogue provision within Westminster.
The role will include regular co-facilitation of Network meetings and support in the creation of informative and promotional material supporting the Just Listening and Peer-Supported Open Dialogue implementation.
The postholder will draw on their lived experience of accessing secondary mental health services and professional experience of undertaking lived experience roles in order to support Open Dialogue practitioners to consider the use of self and the interplay between professional and personal identities within Open Dialogue practice and during Intervision.
The post holder will ensure that the Recovery agenda is maintained within the Westminster Peer-Informed Open Dialogue Team, ensuring that the principles of recovery and lived experience practice are upheld within the team, and promote, develop and embed the principles of recovery orientated practice across the organisation.
There will also be an element of the role dedicated to sharing learning and development within this work with external stakeholders including NHS Improvement, Department of Health and Commissioners.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Organisational work
- To promote the principles of recovery and lived experience perspectives and practice within the developing provision of Peer-Informed Open Dialogue across Westminster’s community mental health services.
- To support the scoping of future peer/lived experience roles within the Peer-Informed Open Dialogue Westminster Pilot, in line with Trustwide policy for the recruitment of lived experience roles.
- To support the Recovery and Wellbeing College with their delivery of Just Listening training and any other Peer-Informed Open Dialogue training as required.
- To contribute to or ensure representation of lived experience perspectives in the context of Peer-Informed Open Dialogue in service development meetings.
- Promote positive understanding, awareness and attitudes towards mental health as part of day-to-day duties.
- Participate in and actively contribute to Lived Experience supervision, mandatory training and team meetings, and organisational events as required.
- Ensure excellent communication and liaison with colleagues within the wider services of the Trust, being an agent for change and a champion of recovery in all interactions both within and outside the organisation.
- Promote development of best practices in Lived Experience Practice within the Westminster Peer-Informed Open Dialogue team through active participation in internal and external training and development programmes.
- Respect integrity, confidentiality, clinical governance and data protection requirements in line with Trust policy.
Facilitation and Promotion of Open Dialogue
- To co-facilitate Open Dialogue Network Meetings alongside relevant professionals in Westminster, bringing in lived experience as relevant.
- Consult and inform the Team Manager of any issues that may affect the effective co-facilitation of Network Meetings.
- To support in ensuring that co-facilitation of network meetings reflect Open Dialogue fidelity criteria, innovative and current practice, and meets local need.
- To scope out and support Westminster services to co-run information sessions promoting Just Listening and Peer-Informed Open Dialogue ways of working.
- To support in the creation of informative and promotional material supporting the Just Listening and Peer-Informed Open Dialogue implementation.
Lived Experience Specialist Role
- To promote the provision of person centred, strengths-based support within CNWL services, informed by experiential knowledge of lived experience (direct personal experience of mental and emotional distress), supporting service users to maintain or regain a sense of agency and autonomy throughout contact with services.
- Provide lived experience consulting to the Westminster Peer-Informed Open Dialogue Team to support them in making sense of service users’ experiences of mental and emotional distress.
- Work in highly sensitive and complex situations, at times with people who are experiencing very high levels of distress.
- To draw on personal lived experience and professional experience of lived experience roles to support staff to consider both their professional and personal identities within the context of Open Dialogue Practice.
- Engage in self-reflective practices and commit to continued personal development.
Learning and development
- Be committed to professional development through independent learning, keeping up to date with latest research within Open Dialogue and building connections with local and national lived experience networks, and Peer-Informed Open Dialogue networks.
- To participate in Trust mandatory training & development opportunities considered appropriate to the role and as identified in the Personal Development Plan (PDP).
- To contribute and commit to undertaking an annual Development review/ Appraisal.
- To receive regular line management supervision in addition to discipline specific supervision
