An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Clinical Nurse Specialist to join an established gynae-oncology team. We are seeking a highly motivated, committed and self-motivated Clinical Nurse Specialist to provide high quality care for patients with suspected and diagnosed gynaecology cancer in the acute hospital setting .Provide support, advice and information for patients, families, carers and staff for patients who have been diagnosed with or undergoing treatment for a gynaecological cancer . To provide support for, and share specialist knowledge with, non-specialist health and social care providers as required

- To support the Gynae Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist & wider AHP team in meeting the care needs of in and out patients.
- To develop and maintain high standards of practice
- To utilise holistic needs assessments and identify patients who might benefit from referral to other professionals (for example, a clinical psychologist, Macmillan Transformation team, palliative care teams, social worker, Allied Health Professionals or benefits advisor)
- Assist medical staff in the explanation of available treatments and act as the patient’s advocate enabling them to make an informed choice.
- Support patients in adapting to changes in sexual function and self image as appropriate
- To be an expert resource for gynaecological cancer advice for other professionals.
- To work closely with patient and health groups in order to best support patient care
- To liaise with the Cancer Centres to ensure seamless care and facilitate open communication and co-ordination of care.
- To have highly developed communication and psychosocial skills, in order to recognise patients’ non-clinical needs as well as problem

The Trust houses a state of the art Simulation & Skills Facility that provides training for all grades of staff to improve the safety and quality of the service that we offer our patients.
We run a portfolio of in-house courses that can be accessed by all staff to enhance their professional development needs. The training is supported by the use of modern equipment including part task trainers for such skills as venepuncture and full body manikins for the practice of emergency drills.

- To support the MDT in reviewing the cancer follow up pathway and utilising best practice in cancer survivorship.
- To participate in twice weekly Nurse Led clinics
- Contribute across the Alliance in terms of attendance and contribution at the NSSG meetings for Gynae cancer
- To receive and participate in regular supervision from appropriately qualified colleagues.
Teaching, training and supervision
- To receive and participate in regular supervision from appropriately qualified colleagues.
- To provide advice and support to other staff working with gynae cancer patients as appropriate.
- To provide educational input for patients and other health care professionals as appropriate including support and reviews of patients admitted across the trust .
Organisational and service development
- To contribute to the development, evaluation and monitoring of local gynae cancer services, through the deployment of professional skills in audit, service evaluation and research.
- To participate in service development meetings as appropriate to the needs of the service.
- Contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of the Gynae Oncology Operational Policy, Work Plan and Annual Review in order to ensure best practice and compliance with NICE Gynaecology Cancer Improving Outcomes Guidance.
