Job overview
The Enhanced Crisis Pathway (ECP) is an innovative and valued specialist psychology team commissioned to provide an intensive offer to a small group of high-risk, frequent users of acute services. We have a track record of transitioning people home safely and collaboratively with a longer term offer than is usually provided in these settings. The team provides trauma-informed evidence-based psychological assessment, treatment and consultation to service-users who are otherwise unable to break the crisis cycle. We are looking for a driven clinician who is passionate about assertive outreach models and novel approaches to working within acute settings. They will need to be comfortable working across the acute pathway, including supporting carers and consulting with multidisciplinary teams.
Advert
The post holder would need to employ a wide range of psychological skills, largely informed by evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT). The post holder will offer continuity of care across the acute pathway, supporting a small, specialist caseload of service-users to safely transition to the community. The post holder will be competent in practicing within psychiatric wards, home treatment teams and community crisis teams with service-users who present with high levels of distress, challenging behaviour and risk. Many of the service-users within this pathway will have complex emotional needs and a formal or emerging diagnosis of personality disorder, requiring support to navigate their acute crises. The post holder should therefore be interested in evidence-based principles for suicidal and challenging behaviour. They should also be committed to self-reflection and willingness to consult within the team about their experiences of the work. The role involves liaison with the nationally respected IMPART specialist personality disorder service. Training and supervision will be provided in relevant evidence-based models as required

As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop in sessions focusing in engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.
High Cost Area Supplement
This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (minimum payment of £4,313 and a maximum payment of £5,436 per annum pro rata).
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Please refer to the attached job description and person specification when completing your application
The ECP sits within the Trust's acute psychology service, who are at the forefront of national developments in inpatient and acute working. We are also actively involved in research and keen to recruit people who share that vision of contributing to best practice, national guidelines and an evidence base. We are looking for people who share our passion for working with those in crisis. In the acute psychology department we offer excellent development opportunities including high quality and regular supervision, opportunities to supervise and manage others, experience in recruitment of new staff, teaching and training to clinical staff, and involvement in research projects.
This job may require direct working with patients with suspected or confirmed COVID-19. The applicant should be able to work with such patients in line with the Trust’s PPE and social distancing guidelines.
The Trust has opportunities for funded HEE training and we would support a successful applicant to pursue this (for example CBT/DBT)
We would be happy to discuss the possibility of setting this post up as a band 7 post with a development plan to allow progression to an 8a. This option would suit someone who has an interest in gaining experience in crisis work and an opportunity to develop towards an 8a role.
