We provide a full range of acute clinical services from Northampton General Hospital and Danetre Hospital in Daventry. We are a designated cancer centre and have recently invested in a number of additional specialist services, including in-patient renal services and interventional cardiology. All elective inpatients and emergency admissions are screened for MRSA. As part of our work to improve clinical outcomes we are taking part in a national patient safety programme and have invested in systems to capture patients views on the service we provide. We understand that sometimes a small change can make a big difference for patients.

We are seeking to appoint a Highly Specialised Cardiac Physiologist to support our expanding Invasive Cardiac Physiology Team.
We are looking to fill this position with a BSc qualified (or equivalent) Cardiac Physiologist who will work alongside the Cardiology team to maintain our high standards of patient care.
We are a dynamic and inter-professional Cardiology team delivering a wide range of services to the local community. Our philosophy is to strive to deliver excellent patient focused care in line with NICE guidelines, National Service Frameworks and evidence based practice.

As a senior member of the Cardiac Rhythm Management team daily duties will involve the undertaking of cardiac device follow up and implantation for both elective and inpatient services.
Follow up is undertaken in the form of clinics, remote monitoring, out reach clinics and domiciliary visits.
Providing physiologist support for cardiac angiography and a range of PCI procedures including PPCI.
Duties will also include training of students, overseeing of junior staff members, control of stock rotation and management of equipment.

PURPOSE OF THE JOB
Under the guidance of the Principle Cardiac Physiologist the post holder is expected to provide a high level of technical and leadership ability becoming a key member of the Cardiac Physiology team. The post holder will use their expertise and knowledge to provide a high level of patient care whilst upholding and influencing professional and trust values.
The post holder will be expected to work within the lines of the Good Scientific Practice (GSP) guidelines, keeping the patient as their main focus throughout any decision making process. They will be an independent decision maker, responsible and accountable and work with honesty and integrity.
The post holder will be highly specialised in invasive cardiology (specifically CRM) and must hold appropriate certification with the BHRS, IBHRE or EHRA.
Key areas of focus will be:
Diagnostic and interventional angiography, including PPCI, IABP, IVUS and OCT
All areas of pacing and complex device implant and follow up including brady, ICD, CRT-P/D and SICD
Contribute to the educational needs of the team; identifying educational needs and delivering appropriate training, mentorship and support
Communicate and work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary professional team
Honouring the standards laid out in the Academy for Healthcare Science Good Scientific Standards Practice
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
The post holder must hold a B.Sc. or equivalent in Clinical Cardiac Physiology
The successful post holder must have proven Cardiology experience at a senior level (Band 6 or 7)
The post holder should have evidence of continuing professional development within their field of expertise
A specialist knowledge of CRM is essential and the post holder must be BHRS, IBHRE or EHRA accredited
The post holder should be voluntarily state registered with the RCCP and / or have begun their STP equivalence application
The post holder must have exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
MAIN DUTIES
Clinical
To be clinically proficient in a range of clinical and scientific investigations and treatments for patients with a broad range of pathologies
To be able to perform as well as interpret and report a range of cardiology investigations and act upon the results
The post holder must work within the guidelines set out by the clinic/hospital protocols
Provide standardised technical and professional CRM device reports
Make judgements, including clinical and differential judgements involving complicated facts and situations that directly impact the patient and/or Cardiac Physiology team
To respond autonomously to unexpected clinical emergencies and technical situations, displaying efficient problem solving initiative
Be responsible for the safe use of complex scientific and medical equipment, including recording and arranging maintenance and calibration when appropriate
To liaise effectively with the team and the Principle Cardiac Physiologist to ensure that all national and local guidelines and policies are up-to-date and relevant to the current clinical and technical practice
Provide excellent technical support for the implantation of simple and complex cardiac device implants with patient focus driving device and lead selection
The post holder must be up-to-date with relevant publications and their impact on current practice including their relevance to CRM patient/device selection and programming
Perform CRM device follow up, troubleshooting and optimisation
Identifying, responding and reporting any device/leads issues to the appropriate Consultant, manufacturer or to the MHRA
The post holder will be competent at leading complex device clinics and able to interpret and seek appropriate levels of support regarding any issues that may arise
The post holder will be adaptable and able to work in other areas of technical cardiology as required to ensure a smooth running department
To be competent in the management of cardiac arrest and peri-arrest situations using basic cardio-pulmonary resuscitation technique and follow appropriate protocols in line with the ILS guidance
To communicate with clarity and sensitivity to a broad range of patient groups showing empathy and emotional support when required
To respond appropriately to any patient complaints in a timely manner and in line with Trust policy
The post holder will support the individual patient and family members and provide clear and factual explanations of investigations and outcomes as required
Maintain patient privacy and dignity at all times
Uphold standards for health and safety procedures
Ensure that patient safety and experience and effectiveness of the service is maximised
Must be able to independently plan and prioritise workload
Able to delegate tasks appropriately and utilise the team to the optimum efficiency
Education, Training and Leadership
To provide effective clinical and educational leadership to all members of the team
The post holder will supervise junior members of the team and be actively involved in the education and assessment of PTP/STP students
Identify education needs within the department and arrange/deliver appropriate training where required and communicate such areas of need to the Principle Cardiac Physiologist
Promote a learning environment within the department by supervising junior members of the team and giving structured feedback as required
Create a working environment which is conducive to the acquisition of further knowledge and skills
Provide mentorship and leadership to junior members of the team
Attend and contribute at departmental meetings
Provide in-house formal and informal training sessions for junior physiologists, students and other technical and medical staff supporting their professional development and performance
To self-manage mandatory and continuing professional development training requirements including ILS
To participate with peers and managers in the on-going development of the Cardiac Physiology service
To contribute at a senior level to the departmental organisation and development by objective assessment and monitoring of services and implementation of new care pathways in collaboration with the Invasive Cardiology Lead
Under the guidance of the head of Invasive Cardiology, be able to reflect on one’s own practice, and identify training and development needs in line with the IPR policy
The post holder must at all times be able to demonstrate an awareness of changing trends and practices within Cardiology
Help to create and maintain positive working relationships within the team and other departments
Ensure the promotion of safety, well-being and interests of the patients, staff and visitors
To be responsible for maintaining high standards of care and to be an effective role model
To attend leadership and management courses as required
To take necessary actions to sustain and improve own knowledge and professional competence and maintain CPD records
Participate in clinical governance activities and wherever possible ensure practice is research based
To ensure good communication with all groups of staff to ensure correct and efficient dissemination of information and maintain effective links with all other disciplines, wards and departments within the Trust
To attend internal and external meetings as a professional Cardiac Physiology representative for Northampton General and behave appropriately whilst representing the Trust and the profession as a whole
Present at study days, conferences or meetings as requested
Management
To report equipment and environmental problems to the Principle Cardiac Physiologist
To deputise to the Principle Cardiac Physiologist as required
To understand basic budgetary matters and relate this to patient care
To use resources in a cost effective way under the direction of the department management team
To liaise with the Administration and Performance Manager to ensure that administration staff have clear guidance and support and are appropriately scheduling appointments and procedures in line with the Trusts procedures and waiting time targets
The post holder will work to ensure that patients are seen within the target waiting times specified by local and national guidelines
Assist with the process of adequately stocking the department; ensuring orders of supplies and stock are made in line with Trust processes
To attend meetings as directed and feedback information as appropriate
To assist with the process of formulating new policies and procedures relating to service provision
The post holder is to participate fully in quality assurance initiatives with particular emphasis on ‘Customer first approach’
Be aware of the Trust’s disciplinary and grievance procedures
To uphold and maintain information security in line with the Northampton General Hospital policy
To work in accordance with the National Service Framework and white papers
Research/Innovation and Service Improvement
Initiate and participate in clinical audit to improve quality of service
Identify areas for investigation/audit for PTP/STP trainee projects
To assist and support research studies and registries and remain compliant within the study guidelines and Good Clinical Practice protocols
Be actively involved in the collection and interpretation of departmental statistics and offer service improvement suggestions based on the findings
To implement research based practice and evidence based best practices
Provide innovative ideas on service improvement and participate in attaining these
To be actively involved in monitoring the quality of the service provided
Be involved in the creation, development and implementation of policies, procedures and protocols
Encourage knowledge of, and adherence to, new policies and protocols
Comment on, advise and give feedback on new policies and protocols
Perform quality assurance process and outcome audits relevant to Invasive Cardiology
